2009 land rover range rover sport Professional Edmunds ReviewSource: Edmunds...It automatically sets the powertrain, suspension and electronics systems to optimize traction based on five different settings: general, grass/gravel/snow, mud and ruts, sand and rock crawl. Properly equipped Range Rover Sports can tow up to 7,700 pounds. Fuel economy estimates for the naturally aspirated 4.4-liter engine are 12 mpg city/18 mpg highway and 15 mpg combined. The Supercharged 4.2-liter V8 achieves the same estimated city and highway mileage but gets only 14 mpg combined. 2009 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Off-road performance in the Range Rover HSE inspires a kind of fearlessness. (Just check your fuel gauge before you set out.) I have been asked in my Real Wheels online chat on Fridays to choose a utility vehicle for beach driving. The Range Rover Sport HSE, or the Land Rover LR3 from which it is derived, easily would be among my first choices (assuming, of course, that the beach allows off-road driving). Both the Range Rover Sport HSE and LR3 have onboard, automatic terrain-setting systems. Turn a dial. Choose a setting for pavement, rocky terrain, sand or gravel. The vehicle makes numerous... |

Flash Drive: 2009 Land Rover Range Rover SportSource: MSN Autos...But the big Land Rover rides smoothly and looks good in the garage or at the country club, and if you ever find yourself in deep mud or climbing rocks, you'll be happy to have all its off-road gadgetry, including a dial in the center console that presets suspension, electronics and drive system for whatever terrain you choose. The air suspension is especially cool. It can lower the vehicle for easy access or raise it for better ground clearance — a pretty neat trick. – Perry SternThe Range Rover Sport Supercharged is packaged as the ultimate road-going Land Rover that doesn't lose any of... |

2009 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...The brake pedal didn't offer a lot of resistance — meaning it didn't have the rock-like feel some folks like in a performance car — but I didn't find it so light as to be annoying. In short, I just felt very secure in the brakes' ability to stop the Sport as quickly as I ever needed them to. Ride & Handling Just like the brakes, the steering requires a light touch; in my book, the Land Rovers I've driven (including this one and a supercharged Range Rover) have the perfect steering setup for luxury SUVs. It's very, very light when moving around a parking lot and during other low-speed... |

The Cadillac Escalade is a larger alternative to the 2009 Land Rover Range Rover Sport.
The Escalade offers more interior room than the Sport, and the 6.2-liter V-8 in the Cadillac helps the Escalade keep up with the Land Rover, even when equipped with the supercharged engine.
But not many buyers need that ability to traverse mud bogs on the way to the country club, and the 2009 Infiniti FX50 and BMW's X6 pose a dilemma for the Range Rover Sport because these all-wheel-drive competitors focus entirely on road performance, which is what so many buyers are seeking.
The choice of SUVs in this price range also includes the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5.
Both are athletic and aggressive but suffer from thick styling.
