2010 land rover lr4 Professional Edmunds ReviewSource: Edmunds...A six-speed automatic transmission sends power to a sophisticated four-wheel-drive system. Using a rotary knob, the driver can select one of five settings (general, grass/gravel/snow, sand, mud and ruts, and rock crawl) that optimize everything for the conditions at hand, from throttle response to the differentials. The LR4 also features a fully independent suspension that utilizes electronically controlled air springs to automatically adapt to virtually any terrain or off-road challenge. Land Rover estimates that the LR4 will run from zero to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds -- not bad for a vehicle... |

2010 Land Rover LR4 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Each setting varies throttle response, gear shifts, suspension, and traction control sensitivity to the desired surface. This is point-and-click four-wheel-drive at its finest. The LCD display shows each tire compressing and rebounding and notes when the center and rear differentials lock up to provide greater traction. It's more fun for the front passenger than useful for the driver, since I'm too busy to look at it. That's because I'm sliding sideways and backward down an icy hill. "When in doubt, throttle it out," Rick says, and on the second attempt I power up with no trouble. It's the... |

2010 Land Rover LR4 OverviewSource: CarGurus...Those brakes by the way are four-piston calipers with 14.2-inch rotors up front and 13.8-inch rotors in the rear.Slight changes to the outside are mostly concentrated in the front, with LED headlamps in the redesigned fascia, including a new split grille that improves airflow to the new engine, and aerodynamic changes such as a new chin spoiler and wheel deflectors to further improve efficiency.Big changes inside, including a totally new interior, have impressed a lot of people. Press releases boast that the button count for the interior has been sheared down from 50 to 29 in an effort to... |

2010 Land Rover LR4 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...I do like Land Rover's adjustable armrests that are attached to the inside of the front seats, though. They're not something you see every day — even in the luxury segment — but they significantly enhance driver and passenger comfort. Backseat passengers are less coddled. For a large SUV, the LR4's second row isn't all that roomy, nor is it very comfortable for adults. There's not much legroom, and the seat cushions are short. The seat isn't adjustable, either. Conversely, our test car's optional third row was surprisingly comfortable for adults when you consider it can also fold into the... |

Five- and seven-seat configurations are offered, and available features include automatic high-beam headlights and a system that uses five cameras to show a complete view of the area around the LR4. Under the Hood The four-wheel-drive LR4's new V-8 engine is larger and more powerful. It displaces 5.0 liters, makes 375 horsepower and... |

2010 Land Rover LR4 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...In the 2010 LR, the seats are much more comfortable, with just enough side bolstering to keep me in place on the trail. Land Rover says it has improved the LR's on- and off-road performance with this makeover. That includes the capabilities of the Terrain Response system, which has driver-selectable modes for different types of trail surfaces - such as sand, mud or rocks. The vehicle remains on the same body-on-frame chassis architecture of the previous generation, which was developed under the guidance of Ford Motor Co., which owned the brand for eight years before selling it in 2008 - along... |

2010 Land Rover LR4 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...The center console is better organized, but still very busy with knobs and buttons. Land Rover tilted it slightly toward the driver to make it more comfortable and accessible. Land Rover also upgraded the navigation system to work faster and added a USB jack to support a personal music device and allow you to operate it through the 5-inch touch screen in the center stack. The new radio includes HD radio -- though like many of the new systems, some stations would bounce in and out of HD in annoying fashion. While big and bulky, the LR4 includes five external cameras to provide a 360-degree... |

2010 Land Rover LR4 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...heated steering wheel and the location of the auxiliary and USB jacks just above the handy shelf in the center console that houses your devices. Neat and tidy! What's still on my LR4 wish list? Seats that are easy to fold. They don't have to be power-folding seats, but it does need to be easier. I'm not tall enough to get the leverage needed to smoothly fold down the third row. The second row is easier to fold than the third row, but it still takes several steps. I loved the 30-35-30 split second row, which is an available feature. Younger kids might find it difficult to buckle up by... |

The VW Group builds three SUVs that compete directly with the Land Rover LR4.
Closest is the Audi Q7, which is a polar opposite of the LR4 with its sleek aero silhouette, its low stance, its more accessible third-row seat, and its modern perspective on off-road performance.
The Volkswagen Touareg is similar, though only a five-seater, while the Porsche Cayenne is a bit lighter and more road-oriented.
Two of those vehicles offer fuel-conscious diesels.
The five-passenger Mercedes M-Class offers another intriguing alternative for those who are conscious about gas-guzzling: the diesel ML320 CDI, which gets 18 mpg city, 24 mpg highway.
The BMW X5 has a slightly higher price tag but also offers a third-row seat and, this year, adds a high-performance M version.
Lastly, the Lexus GX 470 is new for 2010, and in an interesting turn of events, dials back its styling to a more straight-edged era, keeping its tall, narrow body and its five- or seven-passenger capability.
