...Estimates range from 16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway for the 3.3-liter V6 2WD version to 15/20 mpg for the 3.8-liter V6 4WD version. Safety: Antilock disc brakes, full-length side curtain airbags, stability control, traction control and even a driver knee airbag come standard across all trim levels. In government crash testing, the Kia Sorento earned a five-star sweep (the best possible) for protection in frontal- (driver and passenger) and side-impact (front and rear) tests. 2008 Kia Sorento Overview

...The SUV seats four or five in two rows, with 60/40 split-folding seats that fold flat into the floor. The 31.7 cubic foot cargo area is on the smallish side compared to similar-sized SUVs, but it does come standard with hooks, a cover, and many under-floor storage compartments. All trims offer ABS brakes, traction and stability control, and a bevy of airbags, including front-side, side curtain, and knee. Despite its affordable price, Base and LX trims for the 2008 Sorento come well-equipped with power features, cruise control, and a CD player. Moving up to the EX gets you power seats, a roof...

...All three competitors have optional third-row seats, which the Sorento lacks. Under the Hood The 3.8-liter V-6 generates 262 horsepower and 260 pounds-feet of torque, a healthy gain over the previous 3.5-liter V-6's 192 hp and 217 pounds-feet of torque. The new 3.3-liter engine makes 242 hp and 228 pounds-feet of torque. It is the only engine available in the LX for 2008. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while part-time four-wheel drive is optional. It includes a shift-on-the-fly provision and a low-range transfer case. With the EX Luxury Package, Sorento owners get Kia's Torque-on-Demand...

...The EX model I drove had the Leather Package, which included leather seats in addition to the standard leather-wrapped steering wheel. This was nice. I always prefer leather to fabric seats because it cleans well and seems more durable. However, and I'm just saying this in general, I think automakers should know that just because they throw leather in a car doesn't mean we mistake an affordable, humble car for a super-lux model. For the record, there's more to lux than leather. The Sorento's center console was appropriately multifunctional, with a deep storage bin, two cupholders and a couple...
