2009 kia borrego Professional Edmunds ReviewSource: Edmunds...All six-cylinder models are paired to a five-speed automatic transmission, while the V8s get a six-speed automatic. A fully loaded V8 sprinted from zero to 60 mph on our test track in 7.8 seconds. Towing capacities for a properly equipped Kia Borrego are 5,000 pounds for the V6 model and a class-leading 7,500 pounds for the V8. Estimated fuel economy for the 2009 Kia Borrego ranges from 17 mpg city/21 mpg highway and 19 mpg combined for the rear-drive V6 powertrain down to 15/20/17 mpg for a 4WD V8. Safety: Standard on the 2009 Kia Borrego are antilock disc brakes, traction and stability... |

2009 Kia Borrego Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...The fold-down center armrest with built-in cupholders is convenient, and it provided enough room for both kids to rest their arms - and drinks - without touching each other. Thank goodness! There also are seatback pockets nestled behind both front seats for easy storage of all the extras. One of my favorite things about the Borrego is the flat floor in the second row. It's fabulous! There's no hump, just plenty of space for me to maneuver during the few instances that I had to get back there. We found it easy to get to the third row because the 60/40-split second row collapses forward... |

2009 Kia Borrego Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Ria Manglapus, my Washington Post associate for vehicle evaluations, was unimpressed. "Haven't we driven this one before?" she asked. Yes, we had. But it wasn't an exact copy. Our previous Borrego, driven earlier this year, was a six-cylinder, rear-wheel-drive model versus the eight-cylinder, four-wheel-drive model now in our possession. In short, our first Borrego was a base model. Our EX was a more upscale package situated just below the top-of-the-line Borrego Limited. "Oh," said Ria, reluctantly turning over the key to the premium luxury, car-based ML550 in exchange for the key to the... |

Review: 2009 Kia BorregoSource: MSN Autos...heated front and rear seats and a backup camera. On the RoadSince Kia expects about 85 percent of buyers to choose the 6-cylinder engine, we requested a V6-powered EX 4WD for a weeklong test drive. This is a strong engine, and it pulls the 4,460-pound Borrego with conviction. It is quite refined and quiet, and responds quickly to the right foot. The only time we wished for the extra two cylinders was climbing steep hills while pulling a 3,700-pound boat and trailer. The 5-speed automatic is a good match to the six and delivers near-seamless gear changes. For all its modern amenities, the Borrego... |

2009 Kia Borrego Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...One of the most annoying features in the cab was the adjustable front seat. I hope only my vehicle, the one given to me to review, had this problem. When you tried to adjust it with the electric switches, it groaned like a dying walrus -- or at least what I think a walrus emitting its last breath would sound like. Move it back, and it would roil in pain. Move it forward and it would delightfully squeak. Fortunately, the Borrego came with adjustable foot pedals, so I could keep seat movement to a minimum. The Borrego does come at a competitive price. The base model starts at $26,995, and a... |

2009 Kia Borrego Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...The hard plastic on the back of the third row, which I had folded flat, made it slippery. The body rolled all of the time: Exiting the highway, entering the highway, turning at a corner and, sometimes, on windy straight aways. It seemed severe and was always punctuated with a thunkfrom my suitcase hitting the wall of the SUV. This seems the apt metaphor for the Borrego: A vehicle that arrived too late, and, no doubt, will leave too soon. With a starting price of $26,000 for a two-wheel drive model, my 4x4, which came nicely loaded with leather, upgraded stereo, running boards and a host of... |

Also a first for this brand is the optional navigation system. Under the Hood The standard engine is a 262-horsepower, 3.8-liter V-6 with a five-speed automatic, and optional is a 300-plus-hp, 4.6-liter V-8 with a six-speed automatic. Kia likes to present the Borrego as a luxury SUV "contender." Experts at TheCarConnection.com think Kia has not so much created an alternative to Lexus, Infiniti, or Cadillac, but delivered an excellent alternative to the fleet of well-known body-on-frame SUVs.
The 2009 Kia Borrego provides slightly more interior room than these competitors and, with the V-8, more power than any of them.
The standard seating for seven is an advantage over several of these SUVs, but the Honda Pilot can carry one more.
The Borrego doesn't present itself as a serious off-roader, as it lacks locking differentials and other off-road goodies to compete against the trail-rated Jeeps.
Kia's price advantage is more toward the base vehicles where the Borrego's level of standard equipment exceeds the others.
