2010 jaguar xk Professional Edmunds Review

...This serves to bring Jaguar into the 21st century, though some might argue that a Jag without wood is like Tom Selleck without the mustache. For 2010, Jaguar has upgraded the cabin with higher-quality materials, specifically more surfaces covered in contrast-stitched leather. Also new is Jaguar's unique rotary shifter and "Handshake" start-up: The console-mounted start/stop button pulses red when the car is unlocked and, once pressed, fires the engine to life and raises the round shifter into the driver's hand. Some may find it gimmicky, but others will think it's incredibly cool. The...

Flash Drive: 2010 Jaguar XK Convertible

...Sadly, the rear seat is practically unusable, and trunk is barely large enough for a small suitcase, but this isn't a car you buy for its practicality. Its value lies in its good looks and the powerful V8 engine under the hood. But as good as this car is at making an impression and providing driving enjoyment on a sunny day, it's still hard to justify the $90K sticker price. –Perry SternThe Jaguar XK makes a fantastic boulevard cruiser. The interior surfaces and materials are a dream to look at and touch; from the high-quality carpeting on the floor and doors to the suede headliner, the XK...

...It's even more surprising when you consider the highly detailed chrome controls for the power seats, which would pass muster in a Bentley. Also, the Volvo-style power-mirror controls are an example of parts-sharing gone awry. (Both brands were owned by Ford during the XK's development.) The cabin has a minimalist look, partly because of the few physical buttons on the center control panel. This is possible because many of the car's systems — including the standard navigation feature — are operated by a touch-screen display. The interface is easy enough to learn, but the electronics need...

Why should I also consider these?

The easy comparisons to the Jaguar XK and XKR hail from Germany.

The Mercedes-Benz SL convertible hardtops can be spiced up to AMG performance, but still feel boulevard-smooth.

They're heavy, and COMAND's entertainment controller mocks first-timers who try to dive into its complex chain of menus.

The BMW 6-Series is even heavier and less happy about it; BMW's sending it to the spa, we hear, and the next 6-Series should emerge late this year, lighter and simpler than the current version.

If you're alternative enough to choose an XK, you might consider a Chevrolet Corvette.

It's never been built better, handling is world-class, and the ZR1 pushes its luck at the 200-mph limit.

At opposite poles of the sports car world to the XK is the Porsche 911.

It's relentlessly efficient, ruthlessly grippy, iconic-but far cooler to the touch than the Jag.
