2008 jaguar xj-series Professional Edmunds Review

...That quad-zone climate control system is an option on the Vanden Plas and XJR, as is the DVD entertainment system. Optional on all trims are high-definition (HD) and satellite radio service. Powertrains and Performance: All 2008 Jaguar XJ models employ a 4.2-liter V8. All but the XJR and Super V8 have a naturally aspirated version of this engine that makes 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. A supercharger on the XJR and Super V8 trims pumps output up to 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic is the sole transmission, and it sends power to the rear wheels. Using the...

...When the door closed it said, "Madam, this door is closed securely" in a British-accented voice. I know it's weird, but it's true. As I mentioned before, however, this car announces its presence. The Super V8 gets noticed, and you should be prepared for all that entails. By this I mean that you'll get many looks from your fellow carpoolers. So you'll probably want to wash your sweats a lot more and wear your swankiest ponytail holder or cleanest elastic headband. That can be a lot of upkeep. Safety The XJ comes standard with front-, side-impact and side curtain airbags, as well as electronic...

2008 Jaguar XJ-Series Overview

...In the performance XJR and Super V8 trim lines, the higher horsepower, larger wheels, and more aggressively tuned suspension provide for an exhilarating driving experience. The 2008 interior offers much more rear-passenger space with ample head and legroom. The front seats are well designed with excellent lower thigh, back, and lumbar support. The cabin features extensive leather, burl wood trim, and chrome. The XJ series offers the largest trunk in the Jaguar line. Some reviewers, however, were not satisfied with the traditional British sense of ergonomics finding some of the instrument...

...In that world, the high-end Jaguar has become a dinosaur. NUTS & BOLTS 2008 Jaguar XJR Supercharged Complaints: Have you ever visited one of those grand old European castles? They are breathtaking, stunning in so many respects, romantically haunting. But few of us would be willing to give up our urban condos or suburban houses to live in one. I am left with that feeling after a week in the Jaguar XJR Supercharged sedan. Drive, acceleration and handling: Excellent in all respects. But there are many substantially less expensive automobiles that are just as thrilling. Also, there's this: In one...

...On the road -- well, that's where the car shines. There's plenty of punch in this 400-horsepower supercharged engine, delivered smoothly and with authority through an excellent six-speed transmission. For a car this size, handling is far above average. What the Super V8 does best, though, is drive down the highway. There's sense of solid stability at expressway speeds, with a quiet ride that is both firm and exceptionally comfortable, that makes you think that yes, maybe this car is worth the money. As the price suggests, the XJ Super V8 is loaded to the gills: There are no options, with...

...The XJ's air suspension remains the same. It can automatically lower the car and maintain its balance for the best mix of performance and comfort. Interior The XJ's interior is basically unchanged from last year. It's simple and elegant, if not as opulent as the high-tech cabins in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Lexus LS 460. For 2008, Jaguar says backseat legroom has been increased, thanks to newly sculpted front seatbacks that allow additional knee clearance. For 2008, heated seats become standard, and cooled seats are optional. Jaguar hasn't disclosed the trim levels for 2008, but all XJs...

Why should I also consider these?

The Mercedes-Benz CLS might have been inspired by the Jaguar XJ; it's essentially an E-Class sedan with curvier styling inside and out, as well as a high-powered AMG version among its flavors.

The BMW 7-Series has awkward exterior styling and the dreaded iDrive controller for in-car systems, but it handles well and is offered in a long-wheelbase edition.

The Lexus LS also comes in a long-wheelbase edition, as well as a hybrid.

2009 Mercedes-Benz CLS Class
The 2009 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class has dramatic styling and a sleeker silhouette than most sedans, but at the expense of visibility and backseat space.

2008 BMW 7-Series
Controversially styled, the 2008 BMW 7-Series still performs like a smaller sedan and carries rear passengers with ease.

2008 Lexus LS 460
The 2008 Lexus LS 460 is a little lacking in personality and presence, so it’s a good choice for those who want top technology and comforts without attracting undue attention.
