...All versions are blindingly fast -- an automatic-equipped G35 we tested ran to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds and dispatched the quarter-mile in 13.9 seconds. Safety: Antilock disc brakes with brake assist, front-seat side airbags, full-length curtain airbags, anti-whiplash front head restraints, traction control and stability control are standard on all G35s. Models with the optional Technology Package get front seatbelts that can better prepare for front occupant safety if a collision is anticipated. Flash Drive: 2009 Infiniti G37 Sedan AWD

...The crispness of the steering is gone, and the brakes seem unusually touchy; they respond very quickly but even with a conscious effort it is still difficult to be smooth and consistent with the brake pedal. Inside, the G37 moves upscale, with perforated leather seats, satin-finish wood trim and center stack with separate climate-control and audio functions with the overall information center up above. Our car was also equipped with the optional navigation and backup camera.–Mike MeredithThe all-wheel-drive system in the G37x appears to have fixed my one minor gripe with the Infiniti...

A Rearview Monitor shows what's behind the vehicle on the dashboard's optional navigation screen when the automatic transmission is in Reverse. Driving Impressions Its handling is the aspect of the G35 that put it in league with the BMW 3 Series, the company for which handling is a claim to fame. Why should I also consider these?

When it comes to premium sedans, there is no shortage of candidates worthy of your attention.

The best-selling car in this bunch is the well-respected BMW 3 Series.

There's no doubt that the Bimmer is an excellent choice, but the 2008 Infiniti G35 is an equally good selection.

The Audi A4 is due for a remake in 2009, so the current model is getting a little old.

However, if you're looking for a front-wheel-drive sedan, the Audi qualifies (it also offers AWD).

The Acura TL is another solid front-wheel-drive option, but it is not as sporting in character as the G35.

Ditto for the Lexus IS, even though it is rear-wheel driven (with an all-wheel-drive option).

A less expensive alternative to the G35 is the Subaru Legacy.

2008 Audi A4
The 2008 Audi A4 is a competent, high-quality entry-level import that’s in its last year of production.

2008 BMW 3-Series
The 2008 BMW 3-Series sedan has the best overall driving experience in its class and remains the gold standard among mid-size sport sedans.

2008 Lexus IS 250
The 2008 Lexus IS gives BMW, Benz, and Infiniti a real challenge, though it's still a little softer than those sedans.
