2010 gmc terrain Professional Edmunds ReviewSource: Edmunds...Fuel economy is impressive. A four-cylinder Terrain with front-wheel drive achieves an EPA-estimated 22 mpg city/32 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined. All-wheel drive lowers these estimates to 20/29/23 mpg. A Terrain V6 with front-wheel drive gets 17 mpg city/25 mpg highway and 20 mpg combined, with all-wheel-drive versions dropping only incrementally to 17/24/20. The maximum tow rating when properly equipped is 3,500 pounds with the V6. Safety: The 2010 GMC Terrain comes standard with antilock disc brakes, stability control, front seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and OnStar. Rear... |

2010 GMC Terrain Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...The 3.0-liter V-6 delivers 264 horsepower, and that gives it a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. This engine, with four valves per cylinder and variable valve timing, delivers its power from low rpm, and that makes it feel energetic. The engine is mounted in a separate subframe to keep vibration from being felt in the cabin. Active noise cancellation uses an in-cabin microphone that detects unwanted sounds and sends counteracting sound waves through the audio speakers. It's this kind of attention to minor details that makes the Terrain feel expensive. The V-6 is rated at 18 miles per gallon in... |

2010 GMC Terrain Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Knowing that I could speak with a real person if I needed to made me feel more secure about the system. The Terrain comes with a free one-year subscription to OnStar. The only thing that threw me in the Terrain was the door-lock button. It's in the center stack instead of on the front doors, and I just couldn't wrap my mind around it. Thankfully my husband patiently - and repeatedly - reminded me where it was whenever I tried to get out of the car. The cargo space has tons of room. I only wish my test car had a power liftgate with an auto-close button, which is available for $495. Without... |

2010 GMC Terrain OverviewSource: CarGurus...and it’ll roll on standard 17-inch aluminum wheels, with 18- and 19-inch aluminum wheels as options.Standard comfort and convenience features will abound on the 2010 GMC Terrain, including Multiplex sliding rear seats that will give rear-seat passengers a class-leading 41 inches of legroom, with the ability to be folded flat for some 64 cubic feet of cargo space. Additional standard features include a rear backup camera system, USB audio connectivity, power heated outside mirrors, a power-adjustable driver’s lumbar support, six-speaker audio, one year of OnStar service, and Sirius/XM... |

Cloth upholstery is standard, and the seats have been made more comfortable than those in the Torrent and earlier Equinox, GM said. The "floating" center instrument stack was designed to make it easier to operate the climate-control and audio systems. The 60/40 split-folding rear bench seat can be moved forward or backward nearly eight inches to increase cargo space or give rear passengers more legroom. There is 31.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seat in place. Electric... |

2010 GMC Terrain Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...There's some body lean in corners at speed, but standard stability control and traction control keep you in the lane and direction chosen. For off-road use or the Snow Belt, we'd opt for the $1,750 AWD, though at a cost of 3 mpg highway in the V-4 and 1 mpg in the V-6. Cabin room is very good, especially for those in back, with its abundant space to move head, legs and arms. The rear seat fits two adults or two adults with a child squeezed between. The rear seats slide fore or aft for more legroom or more cargo space. Rear seatbacks fold flat if even more gear has to be carried. A convenient... |

2010 GMC Terrain Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Meanwhile, encounters with things like door handles and shift levers leave you with an unsatisfied feeling, a longing for heft and substance. In other words, a lot in this car feels kind of flimsy. You might not notice it if you haven't recently driven a Honda or a VW. But if you have, the lack of substance hits you like a micrometeoroid. What the Terrain does have, in abundance, is amenities: remote start, automatic projector beam headlamps, power liftgate, heated outside mirrors, rearview camera, heated leather seats. Our test vehicle ($35,135) was equipped with optional 40-gig audio/navi... |

2010 GMC Terrain Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...from a speedometer marked in 10-mph increments — easier to tell your speed on the fly than the usual 20-mph markers — to a number of large storage areas and a user-friendly stereo. Interior quality is midpack for this class. Cabin materials look good, but padded surfaces in areas you regularly touch — door panels, for instance — are in short supply, and too many buttons among the center controls have the brittle, uneven quality GM has finally banished in other models. What's more, storage cubbies along our tester's doors had sharp, unfinished ridges across their inside surfaces... |

2010 GMC Terrain Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...I like this willing, eager little V-6, but the six-speed automatic transmission, standard with either engine, seemed busy and confused at times. Mechanically, the transmission is fine, but GMC engineers need to do some fine-tuning on shifting points. As far as the Terrain's ride and handling - no complaints there. Options on our top-of-the-line SLT included that V-6 engine ($1,500), 19-inch tires and chrome wheels ($900) and a towing package ($350) that, with the V-6, can handle a 3,500-pound trailer. The SLT package already gets you leather upholstery, a powerful Pioneer sound system and a... |

2010 GMC Terrain Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...One can play a DVD, while the other can connect to a video game. During the rare time backseat siblings erupt in commotion, the controls and screens can be overridden by someone in the front. It's the technological equivalent of "Don't make me pull this Terrain over." Additionally, GMC makes a point that none of the safety equipment is optional -- and it's a trend lots of carmakers are following. People shouldn't have to pay extra for more safety features. The Terrain comes with six air bags, including front- and side-curtain air bags for both rows. Additionally, there is electronic stability... |

The 2010 Chevrolet Equinox is the same basic vehicle, priced about the same and available with all of the same equipment but with a very different look.
If the Terrain sounds like the right vehicle for you, but just doesn't fit your image, try the Equinox.
The Toyota RAV-4 and Honda CR-V beat out the Terrain in cargo room, but the Terrain's long options list and good fuel economy make it a worthy alternative.
The slightly smaller Nissan Rogue and Ford Escape compete well on price, but the Terrain could beat them on features and size.
