2008 ford taurus x Professional Edmunds ReviewSource: Edmunds...That model's lousy continuously variable transmission (CVT) has also been replaced by a conventional six-speed automatic, whose operation should feel more familiar to most drivers. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive optional. Fuel economy is 16 mpg city and 24 mpg highway for the front-wheel-drive model, and 15/22 for the all-wheel-drive version. These numbers are on par with rival crossovers like the Mazda CX-9 and Buick Enclave/GMC Acadia/Saturn Outlook triplets. Safety: Every 2008 Ford Taurus X includes four-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction control and AdvanceTrac... |

2008 Ford Taurus X Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...The optional second-row captain's chairs recline and adjust fore and aft; they flip forward with a single lever to provide access to the third row, which is tight at best. A power tailgate is optional. Other optional equipment includes tri-zone climate control, a voice-activated navigation system and a drop-down DVD player that Ford says offers a clearer display than before. Ford's Sync system, which integrates phone and entertainment functions into a single voice-activated interface, is optional. Under the Hood In the Taurus X, a 3.5-liter V-6 replaces the 3.0-liter engine in the Freestyle... |

2008 Ford Taurus X Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...or continuously variable transmission, which works like an automatic but has no set number of gears. For 2007, you could get only the CVT, and now for 2008, you can get only the six-speed automatic. That's OK: Both transmissions are above average. Otherwise, the Taurus X feels like a Freestyle, which is fine; it's a very capable station wagon with plenty of room in the front and middle rows of seats, but the third-row flip-down seats are kid-sized. The test Taurus X Limited was all-wheel-drive (front-wheel-drive is standard), and being a top-of-the-line Limited, it was loaded. The base model... |

2008 Ford Taurus X OverviewSource: CarGurus...To receive this designation, the Taurus X earned the Institute's highest rating in front, side, and rear impact tests, largely as a result of improvements to the platform made for the 2008 model year. Many drivers and critics considered the old Freestyle to be underpowered, but that's been remedied in the Taurus X as well, thanks to a new 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 260 horsepower, up 57 horsepower from the previous year's Freestyle. Other features for the new Taurus X include a standard AdvanceTrac traction control system, a Safety Canopy System, and an available Ford SYNC System. The... |

2008 Ford Taurus X Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...With just the touch of a button, access to the third row is made painless. If you happen to have car seats in the second row, climbing over the second row console isn't too bad, especially for the junior set. If you prefer not to have foot marks on the console, you can opt out of it in favor of a passageway to the way-back. Rounding out the new feature set is the extremely convenient power liftgate. Last but not least, the Ford Taurus X is a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and offers its entire safety package standard on all models. Because I established up front... |

2008 Ford Taurus X Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Taurus X offers Sync as standard. That's the system developed with Microsoft that provides voice-command compatibility with portable digital media players and most Bluetooth-enabled phones. Tech challenged, we literally called on Sync for its easy-to-activate radio and navigation systems ($1,995), though, honestly, saying "radio on" hardly requires four years at Harvard. Press a button and say "help," and the navi screen lists all of Sync's "vital" services -- among them the golf course. Why? Now, that would require a Harvard degree. The AWD Taurus X Limited starts at $32,185. Along with... |

2008 Ford Taurus X Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...The same appears elsewhere, like along the dashtop storage bin lid. The shiny metal latch bar is clearly visible through a gap along the top of the glove box door, and there's a trim piece at the base of each A- pillar that looks like it was slapped on as an afterthought. If it was, no one has bothered to go back and redo it since it first appeared in 2005. The restyle and rename were a chance for Ford to fix some of this stuff. That they didn't now suggests that they never will. Row Two Two captain's chairs are the standard second row, but a 60/40-split three-seat bench is a no-cost option... |
