Also standard is Ford's MyKey system, which allows owners to set up driving restrictions for young drivers. In government crash tests, the 2011 Ford Mustang coupe and convertible earned a top five-star rating for its protection of occupants in frontal and side-impact collisions. In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety... |

2011 Ford Mustang Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...We haven't driven it, but if you get a chance to drive a 2011 GT500 convertible and coupe back-to-back, send me an email with your thoughts. The Inside My major impressions of cabin quality are in my review of the restyled 2010 Mustang, whose interior is mostly carried over for 2011. The GT500 gets unique seats with Alcantara suede inserts alongside a high-quality grade of leather, and they strike a nice balance. There's good thigh and lateral support, without bolsters so huge you regret eating dessert. Taller drivers may want a few more inches' rearward travel, but that would encroach on... |

Shelby GT500 The Shelby GT500 remains the most potent version of the Mustang, and it receives an all-new aluminum engine for 2011 that's 102 pounds lighter and 10 hp more powerful. 2011 Ford Mustang Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Chances are this is a tradeoff for the more comfortable ride quality. Where earlier Mustangs tended to feel skittish, this one just felt soft. Impressive Electric Steering I was also pretty impressed with the steering, which had a nice weight and appropriate assist levels at all speeds. Normally I wouldn't rave about it, but this is a new electric power-steering system, which eliminates the hydraulic power-steering pump and its parasitic load on the engine. EPS is becoming widespread for its fuel-saving advantage, and it's theoretically a superior approach, but overwhelmingly it fails to live... |

With the 3.6-liter V-6 engine in the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro producing 305 horsepower and getting EPA ratings of up to 18 mpg city, 29 highway, the lighter 2011 Mustang should be considerably quicker than the base Camaro while also more fuel-efficient.
That's our kind of muscle car.
And while the Mustang GT's power output doesn't quite approach that of the Camaro SS, it's significantly lighter.
In comparison, the Camaro's interior feels more gimmicky than the Mustang's, and the Camaro's delicate front end make it slightly less day-to-day usable.
The Dodge's interior is larger, and its base V-8 still offers more horsepower than the Mustang's only V-8, but it's more portly and drives as such.
While not a direct competitor, the rear-wheel-drive Nissan 370Z is one of the best-tuned pure sports cars on the market but lacks even small rear seats and a proper trunk.
