2009 ford mustang Professional Edmunds ReviewSource: Edmunds...The Mustang GT features a 4.6-liter V8 with 300 hp and 320-lb-ft output worthy of its muscle-car looks and heritage. With a manual transmission, the GT goes from zero to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds and clears the quarter-mile in 14.3 seconds. Its fuel economy is 15 mpg city/23 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined. Safety: Four-wheel disc brakes and front-seat side airbags are standard on all Mustangs. Antilock brakes and traction control are optional on the V6 models and standard on the GT. Neither stability control nor full-length head curtain airbags are available. In National Highway Traffic Safety... |

Flash Drive: 2009 Ford MustangSource: MSN Autos...Yet, Ford has definitely improved the interior from previous models. Another complaint: The gear shifter obscured the climate-control functions in fifth gear. But after driving this car for several hours, it was easy to forget these faults and focus on the great engine and driving experience the Mustang delivers. – Joe ChulickThe Ford Mustang is brilliant. Every Ford I’ve driven recently has been truly world-class, and the Mustang is no exception. It’s straightforward and honest, exactly as a pony car should be. It is fun to drive and sounds fantastic, with an engine powerful enough to... |

...Despite what sales would leave you to believe, there’s only one way to make a Mustang, and that’s with a manual transmission and a big V8. |

2009 Ford Mustang Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...braking system (standard on GT) Optional alarm system Shelby GT500 Differences between the regular Mustang and the Shelby GT500 are subtle for the most part. The traditional pony logo on the grille is replaced with an offset cobra design on the Shelby GT500, and the headlight enclosures angle in more sharply than those on the regular edition. The hood is fitted with two openings designed to vent heat from the engine bay. Coupes have racing stripes, but convertibles do not. Changes to the interior are understated as well. The large round speedometer and tachometer swap positions in the... |

2009 Ford Mustang Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...The script for the gauges and the appearance of the optional leather seats in my GT test car also fit into the retro theme. Some areas of the car, like the center control panel, have a generically modern look, but the buttons and switches move with a fair degree of refinement. The GT's front bucket seats offer good comfort on longer drives; I took a three-hour trip in the Mustang and stepped out without feeling sore at all thanks to the seat's soft cushioning. Ford has made a push to offer unique cabin lighting in its cars, and the Mustang is included in that effort. The available MyColor... |

Since 2002 when the last of the Chevrolet Camaros and Pontiac Firebirds rolled off the assembly line, the Ford Mustang has had no pony/muscle car foes to compete against.
Some may be tempted to compare the Mustang to front-wheel-drive coupes like the Pontiac G6 or the Scion tC, but those are apples-to-oranges comparisons.
With the introduction of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, finally, the Mustang has a rear-wheel-drive foe to battle, even if the Dodge only competes with the expensive Shelby GT500 and GT500KR models—for now.
This year (2009), Mustang will compete against a full lineup of Dodge Challenger models (with V-6 and V-8 powerplants), as well as the 2010 Camaro.
The ‘60s are back with a vengeance, and as an added benefit, these muscle machines can take on the twisties as well as they devour pavement in a straight line.
