Safety: The 2011 Ford Focus comes standard with stability control, antilock brakes (front disc, rear drum), front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags. The Focus also comes standard with Ford's programmable MyKey system, which allows parents to specify limits for vehicle speed and stereo volume for their teenage drivers. Under the Hood The Focus' engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that can team with a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic, which is a fast-acting dual-clutch automated manual. (It has no clutch pedal and operates as an automatic from the driver's perspective.) According to Ford, the Focus will achieve as high as 38 mpg on the highway with the automatic and 36 mpg with the manual. The best efficiency will come with the Super Fuel Economy option later in the model year, which for $495 will deliver 40-mpg... |

2012 Ford Focus Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Honda, Hyundai, Kia — that have all managed to coax 40 miles per gallon or more out of compact cars without using expensive gas-electric hybrid technology. The rivals have hit the 40-mpg mark using four-cylinder gasoline engines with direct fuel injection and variable valve timing, and using other technology to better mix fuel and air for a bigger internal bang without an increase in fuel consumption. The companies increasingly are linking their little engines to more efficient manual transmissions. Five-speed gearboxes have become the norm. Others are using continuously variable... |

2012 Ford Focus Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...along with the Cruze and Hyundai Elantra, but the top mileage comes only with the Super Fuel Economy option, similar to the Fiesta's. Final EPA ratings haven't been released yet. SFE won't be available as of the model's launch, but it will include low-rolling-resistance tires, a rear spoiler and an active grille shutter system, which automatically controls vanes in the grille based on speed and temperature, opening them only as far as necessary to cool the engine. Ford says aerodynamics improve as they close, raising efficiency by as much as 4 to 5 percent at cruising speed. The SFE Focus... |

2012 Ford Focus Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...I missed having a little bin for my phone or my wallet. My test car had the MyFord Touch system; a touch-screen in the dash controls the stereo, climate and more. Of course, Family Sara worries about the distraction factor of these systems, while College Sara had lots of fun pushing the buttons and figuring out how to make it work. In addition to MyFord Touch, the Focus also had the voice-activated Sync system that enables you to make calls or play music without fumbling with controls. The Focus had good legroom in the backseat. I chalk it up to the deep seat benches. There also were... |

2012 Ford Focus OverviewSource: CarGurus...especially considering the added feel you get with its electro-hydraulic clutch, but the fully electric system in the Focus is nearly as good and will only get better as Ford continues to update mechanics and software.Speaking of software, Ford continues to get it right. The interior of the new Focus received just as much attention as the rest of it, with hard plastics hidden gracefully and soft-touch surfaces dominating, but special mention must be made of the Sync system, which has been called the best in the industry. It’s unavailable in the entry-level S trim, optional in the SE and... |

2012 Ford Focus — ReviewSource: MSN Autos...The trunk has 13.2 cubic feet of space, which is a bit large for the class. The hatchback has 23.8 cubic feet of space with the seats up, and 44.8 cubic feet with the second row folded, making it the choice for outdoor types or those who just need more space. On the RoadThe Focus is available with four different wheel sizes, ranging from 15 to 18 inches, and the ride and handling characteristics change with each. The base trim wasn't available for testing, but we drove cars with the 16-, 17- and 18-inch wheels and were impressed with each. Models with the 16-inch wheels have a sporty but... |

2012 ford focus Professional Edmunds ReviewSource: Edmunds...Ford promises an effective range of about 100 miles between charging. But as with all electric cars, actual performance will be highly dependent on driving style and environment. In Edmunds performance testing, a Focus Titanium with the automatic went from zero to 60 mph in 8.7 seconds -- on par with similarly powered cars in the class. With the manual, that drops to 8.3 seconds. Official EPA estimates for fuel economy stand at 26 mpg city/36 mpg highway and 30 mpg combined with the manual transmission. The automatic has a 28/38/31 mpg estimate. With the Super Fuel Economy option package... |

A decade ago, the benchmark in this segment was the Toyota Corolla, but today’s Corolla is outclassed.
The Chevrolet Cruze—from Ford’s crosstown rivals at Chevy—is to some the top rival to the Focus.
Compared to the Focus, the Cruze feels a little roomier yet with a rather soft ride and bland styling inside and out, it’s not nearly as exciting.
For those who want a sporty driving feel, the Mazda3 is still one of the best bets; trouble is, the 3 just has too much harshness and road noise inside.
The Hyundai Elantra is the new leader in this segment, with a stylish interior and exterior, good ride comfort, and an excellent 40-mpg highway rating for all versions.
The Volkswagen Jetta became a step blander last year—with a lackluster base four-cylinder engine and unimpressive fuel economy—but otherwise it’s a decent value.
Honda’s Civic has also been refreshed this year, with an upgraded interior and a somewhat new look.
