2011 Fisker Karma Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...In keeping with Fisker's environmental focus, the Karma's luxury interior uses materials that should appeal to the sustainability crowd. Wood trim comes from timber reclaimed from California forest fires and the bottom of Michigan lakes, according to Fisker. Leatherette is standard. The EcoSport option package introduces genuine leather, which Fisker says comes from a sustainable plant powered by byproducts of the manufacturing process. The EcoChic option package provides an animal-free interior with fabric and simulated suede. Under the Hood The Karma's drivetrain, which Fisker calls... |

2012 Fisker Karma Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...but the Karma's engine follows the acceleration more closely than the Volt's does, for a more natural — if sometimes more noticeable — sound. The Karma makes its best sound when the engine's off, in the form of a signal piped out of speakers in the front and rear at speeds below 20 mph. Unlike the swirly, ethereal pedestrian warning emitted by the Nissan Leaf, the Karma's is a cool spacecraft sound that its engineers say was inspired by the light cycles from the "Tron" movies. Can I get this on my car? Pick Your Braking Level More than other electrics, the Karma lets you select... |

2012 Fisker Karma OverviewSource: CarGurus...In Stealth mode, the car uses only 1 electric motor and promises a 50-mile range without using a drop of gasoline. This ride is nice and quiet, perfect for most people getting around town. It goes from 0 to 60 in 7.9 seconds and has a top speed of 95 mph. Switching over to Sports mode, however, is a different story. The ride becomes markedly noisier (Fisker says a new exhaust is on the way), but the car’s power and handling increase dramatically: 0 to 60 in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 125 mph. The car is estimated to go around 300 miles in this mode, before it needs a 6-hour charge.But... |

It's hard to know precisely what to compare the 2012 Fisker Karma against.
The company will tell you it's competing with mid-size German luxury sedans like the Audi A6 and BMW 5-Series--and perhaps their upcoming hybrid models--though it has far less room for people and luggage than either.
In looks, it may be closest to the Aston Martin Rapide, also a sleek four-door sport sedan from a company where Henrik Fisker worked.
But we think among those willing to put down deposits on cars from startup companies before they can even drive them, the closest match is the 2012 Tesla Model S, the all-electric mid-size sport sedan due to launch in the summer of 2012.
We've heard of several buyers who put down deposits for one, then switched to the other.
But we suspect the market for plug-in luxury sedans may be slow to develop once the early-adopter and high-tech crowd takes delivery.
