...Dual bags also will be a major selling point when kids debate parents over the wisdom and merits of a $20,000 sports model at graduation time. One gripe, however, is that anti-lock brakes are only an unpriced option in any Talon. Making ABS an option keeps the base price down so the car can be promoted as more economically attractive-especially to youth. While air bags are a plus, Talon suffers some minuses. Neither Chrysler nor Mitsubishi paid any attention to the lack of rear seat room that has plagued the car from day one. You pay for a pair of seats in back, but all you get are cloth or...

...Like the recently deceased Eagle Vision, however, the Talon is not selling. After getting beaten in sales 2-1 last year by the mechanically-identical Mitsubishi Eclipse, Chrysler has pulled the plug on the struggling Eagle brand, so consider the Talon a collector's item. We offer this review as eulogy to the dearly departed. Other than our aesthetic quibbles, we've always liked the Talon. It's quick, handles well, and the top-rung model offers the security and stability of all-wheel drive for drivers who regularly pilot rain-slicked or snow-covered roads. ABS is not standard, so consider your...

...And keep in mind that the unofficial industry standard calls forcupholders to accommodate McDonald`s cups. We found out the hard way that the holders don`t hold your typical 16-ounce pop bottle, however. One nice touch was the little covered stowage tray behind the gear shiftknob. It was just big enough to hold a trip`s worth of receipts without themblowing all over the car. Each time we have the chance to drive a Talon, we can`t help but think of the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird. That pair may hold the styling edgeover the Talon, but the room and comfort in th e Talon-along with the...

...Chrysler claims the turbocharged TSi can get from zero to 60 in a speedy 6.5 seconds. Changes on this fresh design are minimal for 1996. Base ESi models get standard 16-inch wheels, and a new combination CD/cassette stereo system is offered. Talon now meets 1997 side impact standards. Nice car, this Eagle. It's quick, handles well, and the top-rung model offers the security and stability of all-wheel drive for drivers who regularly pilot rain-slicked or snow-covered roads. However, the rear-end styling treatment needs to be rethought. Not only is the bright-orange reflector surrounding the...

...advantage over the sky high boost given to most four-wheel-drive utility vehicles to make room for the hardware and to allow off roading clearance. The 0.6-inch rise in Talon means you don`t have to fight the higher center of gravity and subsequent lean in a corners or turns at speed. The Eagle Talon has attractive looks, above average performance, four- wheel-drive security and respectable fuel economy. Yet there are a few changes we`d like to see. To accommodate the four- wheel-drive hardware, Chrysler repositioned the fuel tank under the trunk floor, raising it 5.9 inches. The mini-spare...

...The ESi gets Chrysler's 2-liter, 16-valve, inline,four-cylinder engine rated 140 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, with maximumtorque set at 131 foot-pounds at 4,800 rpm. The TSi gets a turbocharged version of that engine rated 210horsepower at 6,000 rpm, with maximum torque set at 214 foot-pounds at3,000 rpm. Both horsepower and torque are slig htly lower when anautomatic transmission is linked to the engine. Complaints: The options mix. I don't see why an anti-lock systemisn't offered as standard equipment on hot runners such as the Talon. It's just plain silly not to offer power dual remote mirrors...

...I'm going to estimate that the AWD model will po st 0- 60 mph times in the low 6 seconds bracket. This much power has to induce some torque steer (pull to the right) on a full-throttle off-the-line run with a front-wheel-drive-only TSi. It's going to take driving with all four wheels to obtain maximum traction with such a potent machine. The coupe appears to be a pretty slick-looking piece of rolling stock. The exterior has flowing aerodynamic lines, with headlamp lenses extending well inward toward the front center line of the car. A redesigned interior is anchored by a new instrument panel...

...The rearseat backs fold to provide needed storage. Dual cupholders (you were waitingfor this line, weren`t you?) are in the center console between driver andfront passenger and are difficult to use. Holders that pull from the dashwould work better. Base price of the Talon TSi 4WD model is $16,513. Standard equipmentincludes performance suspension; power brakes and steering; all-season, 16-inch, steel-belted, radials and alloy wheels; rear window defogger;automatic-off headlamps; driving lamps; intermittent wipers; power mirrors;tilt steering; tinted glass; AM/FM stereo with cassette and six...

...Published: 10/02/1995 Updated: 10/02/2009 What's New for 1995: The Talon is redesigned for 1995.
The new model features a new body and more power. Base engine creeps up to 140 horsepower, the turbo to 210 horsepower.
Dual airbags replace the antiquated motorized seatbelts on the previous edition, and the Talon now meets 1997 federal side-impact standards...
