...All Grand Caravans are front-wheel drive. Safety: The Grand Caravan comes standard with antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, and full-length side curtain airbags. Optional on both the SE and SXT Caravans are second-row integrated child booster seats (requires Swivel 'n Go). Optional on the SXT is the Security Group, which adds rear parking sensors, a blind spot monitoring system and Rear Cross Path. The latter item aids drivers any time the vehicle is in reverse by warning of cross traffic in both directions to prevent getting your Grand Caravan T-boned. A rearview camera is...

...Fuel economy is rated at 17 miles per gallon in the city and 24 on the highway. The Stow 'n Go seats that fold into the floor are tremendously handy when you need a flat cargo space for hauling large items. The second- and third-row seats tumble into bins in the floor. These bins are also great places for hidden storage when the seats are upright. The third seat tips over backward to create a seat for tailgating. The small table from inside can be mounted on the trailer hitch as a place for outdoor picnicking. In spite of the fact that these new vans are larger in every dimension, they don't...

...Although reviews of the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan vary widely on a number of issues,
the bottom line is that it's a safe and reliable minivan that packs a ton of standard features in addition to a warranty that’s second to none.
Despite an aging exterior design, Dodge has a proven performer in the ’09 Grand Caravan...

...The SXT Grand Caravan comes with a six-speed automatic transmission whether you get the 4.0-liter or the SXT's standard 3.8-liter V-6. SE models have a four-speed transmission and a 3.3-liter V-6 as the only options. The 4.0-liter Grand Caravan SXT is rated at 17/25 mpg city/highway, compared with 17/24 for the SE and 16/23 for the SXT with the 3.8-liter engine. All in all, I'd take the bigger engine and better fuel economy, thanks. Safety The Grand Caravan received a rating of Good, the highest possible, in Insurance Institute for Highway Safety frontal-offset and side crash tests. The 2009...

...And a power-operated third-row seat folds flat into the floor to increase cargo space, or you can hide just one of the split seats if you don't need so much room. More nice touches. As a bonus, those third-row seat backs have grocery-bag hooks to keep things from rolling around. Power sliding side doors on both sides help entry/exit, while the power tailgate makes for easy loading/unloading. The sliding doors have water-bottle holders and can be equipped with manual sun shades. Screens over second- and third-row seats pull down from the roof for watching movies or Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network...

The standard 3.3-liter V-6 is a flex-fuel engine that can run on E85 ethanol. That V-6 comes with a...

...There are cupholders everywhere, and my kids enjoyed being able to open and close the second-row vents to meet their needs. I really liked that I could disable the buttons that open and close the power-sliding doors. Also, these automatic doors will not move unless the car is in Park. My test Caravan was equipped with an entertainment package ($2,200) that has three separate video screens, one for each row. I cannot tell you how much I love this feature for longer trips. I also liked that the front-row screen, which works only when the car is in Park, can keep the driver entertained while...

...Included on our tester was the "Popular Equipment Group" ($1,495), which added power sliding doors and liftgate. Also on our vehicle was the "Climate Group" ($995), which brought three-zone manual air conditioning. We also had the upgraded MyGIG audio system ($725) with a 30-gb hard drive and the rear back-up camera. There are many interior storage compartments; a multi-function, front-row sliding console that moves up to 21 inches rearward; two glove boxes; and more cup and bottle holders than there are seating positions. Our vehicle came with cloth seats, but available are Chrysler's new...

Why should I also consider these?

The 2009 Ford Flex is a different take on the traditional minivan.

With its MINI-esque styling and seven-passenger interior, this might be a Ford worth considering if you don't fall in love with the Grand Caravan.

If value is your biggest attractor, check out the Hyundai Entourage.

It does not offer everything the Dodge does, but the Entourage may have enough for you.

If you're not sure you need all the room found in the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan, check out the Mazda5.

It's sportier and more fun to drive than the Dodge.

Don't even think of asking for Stow 'n Go seats or Sirius TV at a Honda or Toyota dealership.

Dodge's price point is significantly lower than either the Honda's or Toyota's, and the Grand Caravan offers more variety in terms of powertrains and available features than either competitor.

And if you drive the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan back to back with a Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna, you'll likely feel some differences in refinement; the Dodge doesn't quite have the level of polish that the Honda and Toyota do.

2009 Ford Flex
The 2009 Ford Flex is one of the most stylish new crossovers, with great passenger room and more features than some minivans.

2008 Honda Odyssey
The 2008 Honda Odyssey melds everyday practicality with fun-to-drive.

2008 Hyundai Entourage
You'll find the 2008 Hyundai Entourage at the intersection of Practical St. and Value Ave.

2008 Mazda MAZDA5
Provided you don't expect too much of a zoom-zoom feel, the 2008 Mazda Mazda5 is one of the few good choices for buyers looking for minivan spaciousness in a vehicle that's especially fuel-efficient and maneuverable.

2008 Toyota Sienna
The 2008 Toyota Sienna minivan does almost everything right for the family, with a roomy, functional interior and great ride comfort, but there’s not a lot of personality.
