...Standard brakes on the Sebring convertibles include vented front discs/rear drums. Four-wheel antilock brakes are standard on the JXi model and are optional on the JX. All Sebrings have dual front air bags. Complaints: The workaday nature of the Sebring's base four-cylinder engine belies the o verall glamour of the car. Something that looks fast ought to move fast, without the all-too-frequent downshifting that marks the base engine's performance when attempting to accelerate. Praise: Superior exterior and interior styling. Maybe all economy and mid-priced cars ought to look this way. Also...

...In our performance testing, a sedan with this engine ran from zero to 60 mph in 9.6 seconds, an average time for this class. Fuel economy is 21 mpg city/30 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined (20/29/23 on the convertible). The Touring convertible comes with a 2.7-liter V6 good for 186 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque, also paired with a four-speed automatic. Fuel economy is rated at 18/26/21 mpg, a dismal performance given the meager power output. Standard on the Limited convertible and optional on the Limited sedan is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 235 hp and 232 lb-ft of torque and is attached to a...

...The engine goes the double-overhead-cam, four-valves-per-cylinder route, and virtually is a full 2.0 liters (1,996 c.c./121.8 cubic inches). At a quite respectable 140 horsepower, that's well above the performance benchmark of one h orsepower per cub ic inch. With a five-speed onboard and in the hands of an experienced driver, the Sebring won't exactly be at the back of the pack when the light goes green. In 2.5-liter (152-cubic-inch) V6 form, there's a little more to play with. However, an LXi with an automatic is going to be more of a ladies' or gentleman's sports coupe rather than the...

...But adequacy in a field of excellent rivals is a vice. And that viciousness manifests itself as incompetence in the 2010 Sebring sedan when it is asked to do anything difficult. Getting up Mine Hill Road here can be difficult for many cars and trucks. But most make the ascent without threatening to pass out, or laboring with such drama that the driver seriously considers turning around and heading downhill instead of continuing forward. Such performance would be bad enough if the 2010 Sebring sedan offered exceptional fuel economy. But it doesn't. It gives you 21 miles per gallon in the city...

...The Sebring may not dazzle critics, but owners love it.
Reasonable prices, a relaxed cabin, excellent entertainment options,
unique styling, and a range of power and handling options make the 2010 Chrysler Sebring a viable choice as both a family sedan and a high-spirited convertible...

...Both the Sebring and Avenger are sold in two trim levels: the base Sebring LX and upscale LXi and the Avenger Base Coupe and upscale ES. The base cars run with a Chrysler-designed, 2-liter, 16-valve, 140-horsepower, inline four-cylinder engine and are equipped with standard five-speed manual transmissions. The lower cars also get standard anti-lock brakes, but their primary brakes are power front discs/rear drums. Complaints: Unimpressive acceleration; a flirtation with cheapness -- more polyurethane forestry -- in the interior. Praise: Brilliant exterior design; overall excellent...

...Pounding the revs produces gagging grumbles because the transmission is a bread-and-olestra automatic. Also a hand-me-down from the extinct Chrysler LeBaron that has been the nation's best-selling ragtop since 1987. * The interior is predictable and convenient: instruments and controls precisely where eyes and fingertips should find them. A Leatherette-knobbed shifter is mounted in the center console for at least a suggestion of the sporting life. But large dents for cup holders slop Jamaica Blue Mountain better than a centrifuge and likely were designed by the Dry Cleaning Institute of...

...The 7,000 rpm tach is "red-lined" at 6,250, which doesn't mean a whole lot because the automatic is going to shift long before that engine speed is reached. And I question whether the engine is going to turn 7,000 rpms with an automatic in fourth gear. With the Sebring convertible utilizing SLA (short/long arm) double wishbone suspension front and rear, a lot of attention has been give to body/chassis rigidity. A major innova tion is the straight-through rail concept in which underbody structural rails are continuous from front to back, forming a ladder configuration in conjunction with...

...In fact, I think it's the seats that really make the car look far more expensive than it is. Up front, the seat belts are built in to the seat. They pull out fromt e the top part of the seat frame - just like those in a Mercedes or BMW. The soft tan leather in o ur fully loaded test car looked great and felt wonderful. The seats offered excellent support of the lower back. Electric switches that adjust the seats are on the side of the lower cushions, where they are a bit difficult to reach. It's the immense expanse of the rear seat that may hold the most appeal for potential Sebring buyers...

...The venerable Le Baron Convertible, and its worn out name, are now history. Replacing the car is the luscious Sebring Convertible, which really ought to set the sales charts on fire. Available in JX and JXi trim, the Sebring Convertible shares its name with the coupe in Chrysler's stable, but shares its platform, structure and drivetrains with the Cirrus sedan. Just look at this rakish drop top. The mouth waters, doesn't it? Well, don't get too worked up. The most potent powerplant available is a 2.5-liter Mitsubishi V6. It puts 164 horsepower to the ground through the front axle. Base JX...
