2008 cadillac sts Professional Edmunds ReviewSource: Edmunds...The airbags include front-seat side and full-length side curtains. For 2008, there are a variety of advanced technologies designed to prevent accidents, including lane departure warning, a blind zone alert system and active steering. The latter is available only on all-wheel-drive V8 models, and is notable for turning the front wheels into a skid when rear wheels lose traction. In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety frontal-offset crash testing, the STS scored a rating of "Good," the highest possible. It scored a second-best rating of "Acceptable" for side-impact protection. Interior... |

2008 Cadillac STS Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Safety Added to the usual standard complement of frontal and side airbags, antilock brakes and other passive safety features are a couple of new options: lane-departure warning and blind-spot alerts. Lane-departure warning, already offered on a few competing models, sounds a warning tone and flashes a light if the car wanders out of its lane. More unique is blind-spot detection, in which radar watches the blind spots and illuminates an indicator on the side mirrors when another vehicle is in the way. Another arguable safety feature is Intellibeam headlamps, which adjust their intensity based... |

Review: 2008 Cadillac STSSource: MSN Autos...easy to keep track of the car's speed without the need to look down at the regular speedometer.A Top OptionOne of the best extras is the Performance Handling Package, which has gorgeous 18-inch chrome aluminum wheels with extra-wide 45-series summer-only tires and Brembo brakes, also used on exotic sports cars. That package also contains a sport suspension and retuned steering with an especially good power assist feature. The STS has good ride and handling with its standard suspension, but roadability is sharper with this option, which really should be standard.Push-Button MishapThe... |

2008 Cadillac STS OverviewSource: CarGurus...While Cadillac offers the option of Magnetic Ride suspension that includes a Touring and Sport mode, which some reviewers felt unnecessary as the standard STS handles competently; minimal body roll, "spot on" steering, and good braking with short 120 foot stops from 60 mph. Standard safety features abound with six airbags, four-wheel-disc ABS, electronic stability and traction control. The safety option list is as inclusive as it is innovative: adaptive cruse control, where the system watches out what's ahead of you; a heads-up display that places speed and other essential information on the... |

2008 Cadillac STS Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...The 2008 STS is not an all-new car, but gets what is referred to in the industry as a "mid-cycle enhancement," a major freshening that falls short of a redesign. The new, bigger grille, similar to the one on the more extensively overhauled 2008 CTS model, makes the STS look like what it is -- the CTS's bigger brother. Inside the STS, quite a bit of interior changes were made, and the result is a handsome, very comfortable cockpit. A lot of safety equipment comes standard on the new STS, including stability control, side and side-curtain airbags, OnStar, rear parking assist, traction control... |

2008 Cadillac STS Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...An optional Bose 5.1 surround-sound stereo boasts 15 speakers, including two in each front seat. It sounds terrific. Look closely, however, and rough edges start to show: The overhead map lights click on and off with a hollow echo, and the power window switches look awfully down-market. The cruise controls are crowded onto the turn-signal stalk, an old GM trick that it needs to stop doing. Worst of all, my test car had gaps between the center panel and glove compartment that you could fit a nickel into. The center controls are the same story: small dials, mismatched buttons and convoluted... |

With V-6 and V-8 engines and a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive, the 2008 Cadillac STS is quite competitive versus the mid-size luxury sedans from Germany and Japan, but it arguably doesn't look or feel as up-to-date as the 5-Series or E-Class inside.
In terms of performance, the base STS has perkier performance than either the E350 or the BMW 528i, though the sweet engine in the new 535i may have it beat.
The E-Class more closely fits a definition of traditional luxury, with a classy appearance, while the 5-Series and M35/M45 feel sportier from behind the wheel.
The Infiniti M models have a surprisingly roomy interior--including a spacious backseat, which is somewhat hard to find in this class--but the ride isn't as settled and road noise can be an issue.
And if you're especially green, you might want to consider the E320 Bluetec diesel, which returns standout highway fuel economy in the mid-30s.
