2009 BMW 750 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...On the one hand, I'm utterly smitten by the technology. I love piloting a leather-lined spaceship with a 20-way adjustable captain's chair with heating/cooling and massage function. There are moments on the interstate at night -- when the ghostly thermal-imaging night-vision display is on, the head-up display is reading out navigation messages, the lane-departure warning system is gently reminding me to use my turn signals, and all is bathed in serene LED cabin light -- that the 750Li really feels like something that comes after the Automobile. Still, I'm nagged by doubt. All of these exotic... |

2009 BMW 7-Series: ReviewSource: MSN Autos...Said package adds a meaty steering wheel, which actually acts on all four wheels, and creates a noticeable improvement in handling. The new 4-wheel steering is called Integral Active Steering, and it also makes for easier parking and a noticeably smaller turning radius. That said, the new 7 represents the first time in history that we've suggested a BMW could use a little more steering feel.Forget that, though, because the story here is in the brutish effectiveness of BMW's new twin-turbocharged V8. In any gear, at any rpm, the engine rips to redline as though there were no friction in the... |

2009 BMW 7 Series OverviewSource: CarGurus...as well as Electronic Differential Lock Control, BMW’s mechanical limited-slip system.Comfort is as much a priority as performance in this, the flagship of the German automaker’s fleet. Seats and suspension both provide any of a number of combinations of performance/support and comfort, with more than enough of both for long trips. The styling refresh sees a new front end, with an integrated bumper that pulls the visual weight downward, for a more grounded appearance. Also new for 2009 are a blind-spot alert, a lane-departure warning, a heads-up display, sideview and rearview cameras, high... |

2009 BMW 750 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Rear steering has been tried by many companies many times, and has typically been abandoned because of weight, cost and complication. None of that is a factor in the flagship BMW. The effect of all these components -- harmonized by a high-speed data system BMW calls FlexRay -- is pretty amazing. Come to a corner in the 750Li and get on the brakes hard. The dampers instantly react to compensate for the nose-diving weight transfer. Turn the wheel, and the four-wheel steering bites. The car tracks like a phonograph needle. Mid-corner, where other big cars would be fighting desperately against... |

2009 BMW 750 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...While you won't mistake its handling for that of a sports sedan, it always feels unruffled and well-connected to the road. BMW credits the smooth ride and crisp handling to a completely new self-leveling air suspension system. The driving dynamics system has four settings that determine shock-absorber firmness, transmission shift characteristics, engine-throttle response and power-steering assist. Other options include lane departure warning, blind-spot detection, night vision and active cruise control with stop-and-go capability. Rear-seat passengers have plenty of legroom in the 750i. The... |

2009 BMW 750 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...The other big change is BMW's revamped iDrive system, which is standard. It still operates by rotating and nudging a large dial on the center console, but now there are more direct-access buttons around the knob for controlling the stereo and navigation system. Ironically, because iDrive's new on-screen interface is much improved, I didn't often have need for the buttons. On-screen menus are so critical to these knob-based systems, which include Mercedes' Comand and Audi's Multi Media Interface. Comand has been my favorite principally because its menus are the most logical and intuitive to... |

The BMW 7-Series has long duked it out with the Mercedes S-Class for Germany's top honors.
The current S-Class is less visually appealing than this new Bimmer, though the S-Class does come in AMG-gone-wild editions.
The Audi A8 is an aluminum-framed car with more conservative looks but a surprisingly nimble feel; it's offered in short- and long-wheelbase versions, as are the Jaguar XJ and Lexus LS.
The Lexus LS 460 also gets a long-wheelbase hybrid companion, the LS 600h.
