However, the 535i xDrive wagon drops to 16/24/19 with the automatic, and the 550i returns 15/23/18 mpg. 2010 BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo — ReviewSource: MSN Autos...Another USB port in the center console can be used for MP3 players, and when buyers opt for the navigation system they get a hard drive that can also hold thousands of songs. On the RoadThe BMW 5 GT has the DNA of a luxury sport sedan, including a near-perfect 49.8/50.2 front/rear weight ratio. However, at 4,600 to 4,900 pounds, the 5 GT is just too big to be truly sporty. The result is a vehicle with a very carlike character, one that drives smaller than its size but doesn't attack turns as well as a more svelte 5-Series. It feels very much like a 7-Series, with sharp steering, quick... |

2010 BMW 550 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Press the opener on the left side of the tailgate and the metal back portion lifts for loading goodies into the cargo area. But press the opener on the right side and, magically, the entire glass window hatch opens to create gaping access for loading/unloading. Reach in and press the power buttons and rear seatbacks fold flat, and the seat motors forward to create a massive crossover-size cargo hold. Push the power buttons again, and the rear seat motors back to its full upright position. The 2010 BMW 550i GT tested starts at $63,900 with all the power goodies plus little extras, including... |

2010 BMW 550 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...That means the numerals for your speed and revs are digital, and at night they don't glow the classic BMW orange; they're orange numerals. The lower part of the gauge cluster is also a digital readout that seamlessly swaps out trip information, time and temperature. Plus, when you're adjusting the stereo, radio station presents or song titles pop up for you to sort through using a steering wheel switch, similar to Audi's layout. The latest iDrive is now teamed to a gigantic center LCD screen. Navigation, which comes standard, is gorgeous in full-screen mode with a satellite overlay. You can... |

2010 BMW 535 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Unless you're hauling large goods like antiques or boxes routinely, the 5 Series' space won't be a hindrance. Its everyday features should more than make up for the smaller area overall. Features The 535i xDrive starts at $55,800 and comes with a fair amount of standard features, like a panoramic moonroof , xenon headlights and rain-sensing windshield wipers. As with most BMWs, though, it's very easy to load it up with option packages and extravagant features. Our tester was loaded with so many it stickered at almost $74,000. Leather seats aren't standard, leatherette is, but BMW adds leather... |

The chief competitor to the 2010 BMW 5-Series's sedan is the Mercedes E-Class, and the Audi A6 Avant is the Sports Wagon's closest rival.
The E-Class has more of an emphasis on comfort than the 5, with a roomier-feeling interior and a softer ride.
The Avant only comes with the 255-horsepower, 3.2-liter V-6 engine, not the larger, 350-horsepower V-8 available on the sedan.
As with the Sports Wagon, all-wheel drive is standard, though the Avant has a slightly softer ride, and its handling isn't as sharp as that of the 5-Series, nor does it offer such advanced technology features.
The Cadillac STS brings plenty of high-tech options and respectable performance, but it doesn't have the prestige of the 5-Series.
The Saab 9-5 SportCombi is now a quite dated design.
It comes with front-wheel drive and turbocharged four-cylinder power, and its powertrains aren't as refined as those of the other rivals, but it's packaged well, with excellent seats, plenty of headroom, and more useful cargo space.
There's also the Infiniti M35 and M45, which bring brisk performance and some rival high-tech features such as a lane-departure system, but their cabins aren't as quiet and refined as those of the 5-Series models.
