2011 audi a8 Professional Edmunds ReviewSource: Edmunds...Powertrains and Performance: Both the standard and L models come with a 4.2-liter V8 that makes 372 hp and 328 pound-feet of torque. It comes matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels. Despite its substantial size, this is a quick luxury sedan. In Edmunds testing, a standard A8 did the 0-60-mph sprint in 6.2 seconds with traction control engaged and went through the quarter-mile in 13.8 seconds (it's even quicker with traction control disengaged). Fuel economy ratings are impressive for such a large, powerful luxury sedan, as both A8 versions rate 17 mpg... |

2011 Audi A8 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Our car had it, and dialed to its most aggressive setting the differential gives the tail a drift-happy demeanor, and the steering's sharp turn-in precision makes rotating the car enjoyable. But in hard corners the A8 exhibits a lot of body roll — perplexing, given its firm-ish ride — and the modest drivetrain doesn't give you much confidence when accelerating out. The A8's Sport Package includes firmer calibrations for the car's standard adaptive suspension; also part of the package are 20-inch wheels and thin P265/40R20 tires. Thus equipped, our test car rode a bit on the firmer... |

2011 Audi A8 OverviewSource: CarGurus...I guess spending six figures on your vehicle exempts you from certain police hassles, if not accidents.Thankfully, the A8 comes with more safety systems and features than you can trace … ahem … shake your finger at. Some are welcome and comforting, like adaptive cruise control and the pre-safe system, which pre-loads the seatbelts and brakes as well as closes the windows and sunroof in the case of an imminent accident. Some, however, are a bit more esoteric, like the infrared night vision with pedestrian-detection highlighting. At a certain point, one has to wonder how much attention will... |

2011 Audi A8 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Mileage ratings aren't available as of the start of the 2011 model year, but Audi promises a 15 percent improvement over the 2010 model. The A8 comes exclusively with Quattro all-wheel drive, which follows other Audi models in adopting a 40/60 torque split (front/rear), giving the car more of a sporty rear-wheel-drive feel. Audi also offers an optional rear sport differential. As in the previous generation, the 2011 model lets the driver select driving modes that vary the engine, transmission, steering and suspension characteristics. They include Comfort, Dynamic and Auto, along with the new... |

2011 Audi A8 — ReviewSource: MSN Autos...A new MMI touch pad replaces the cumbersome type-on-screen system of old. If you want to know the location of the closest mall, simply draw out the letters M-A-L-L on the pad with your finger. Skeptical? So were we, but the system is fast and accurate — packed with millions of character symbols, and in any language. On the RoadAlthough there is no a huge jump in horsepower over the third-generation A8, the 2011 car simply feels faster. For example, stomp on the throttle in eighth gear when you're crawling, and the 8-speed automatic transmission will jump all the way down to second. The... |

2011 Audi A8 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...First, you write the first letter of the street on the touch-pad, then the next and the next until the system fills in the remainder of the street name. This system is also able to recognize Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters. The five-seater comes with a 12-speaker Bose audio system as standard, but a premium Bang & Olufsen system is available with 19 speakers. It also boasts a factory-installed WLAN hotspot to keep you in touch and productive no matter where you're parked. It also offers wireless access for gadgets of all kinds. With a base price of about $75,000 and a top price well over $100,000, the new Audi A8 competes with the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and will have the 2011 Jaguar XJ and Lexus LS also in its sights.
Fresh from a 2010 update, the Benz S-Class spans the range of powertrains from S400 Hybrid to twin-turbo S65 AMG.
It's also the foundation for the Maybach sedans.
The BMW 7-Series was new for 2009, and since then has added six-cylinder models, an ActiveHybrid gas-electric version, and a V-12 edition, all working perfectly with its de-Bangled style and its improved iDrive controller.
The 2011 Jaguar XJ / XJL has been dramatically reworked, with a body more like the smaller XF than the dowdy aluminum panels worn by the previous version.
And finally, the Lexus LS range spans short-wheelbase Sport models to long-wheelbase hybrid LS 600h L versions, and it's an impossibly smooth vehicle to operate—though even with sport add-ons, it's still the least engaging of these sedans to drive.
