2012 Audi A7 Professional Cars.com Review

...It's controlled by Audi's latest Multi Media Interface, whose knob controller has an adjacent touch-pad that picks up commands as you trace them with your fingers. The backseat fits two, with folding seatbacks to expand cargo capacity. Standard features include heated leather upholstery, power front seats and a moonroof. Four-zone climate control, Bang & Olufsen stereo and ventilated front seats are among the options. Under the Hood The A7's supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 delivers 310 horsepower and 325 pounds-feet of torque. With an eight-speed automatic and rear-biased all-wheel drive, the A7...

...Why? I left the A7 thinking that I had parked an exotic coupe. Instead, I had parked a five-door hatchback, the most practical of practical family sedan designs. When I finally stumbled upon the A7, I was confused. It certainly looked like a hot coupe. But it had four side doors and a long rear hatch. Audi’s designers used three prominent lines — upper, middle, lower — to conceal the A7’s homely design origins. The lines, in conjunction with a rear quarter that looked more “coupe” than most coupes, give the A7 an air of muscular sensuality. Inside is all of...

...with capabilities of sending up to 85 percent rearward or 70 percent to the front under differing conditions. The 3.0-liter V6 is direct-injected and fitted with a Roots-type blower; you can also find it in the S4 and A8. The EPA is estimating fuel economy at 18 mpg city/28 highway with a combined rating of 22 mpg, but long-term testers are finding the A7 nestling more comfortably in the teens with a mix of driving conditions. The electronically assisted steering isn’t the best, but it’s adequate, and Audi has hinted at further improvements. With the optional adaptive air suspension...

2012 audi a7 Professional Edmunds Review

...In Edmunds brake testing, an A7 Prestige with the 20-inch wheels and summer tires came to a stop from 60 mph in 106 feet. That's sports car territory, but it would be longer with the regular tires and smaller wheels. Interior Design and Special Features: Audi is known for producing some of the finest car interiors in the world, consistently setting benchmarks for design and quality. The new A7 carries that torch and also improves upon the way the driver interacts with the car's myriad electronics devices. Audi's newest MMI benefits from enhanced functionality of the steering wheel controls...

...Big Brother would be proud of such a connected family. And if you're looking for other ways not to talk, the A7 also includes an optional 1,300-watt, 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. It's a wagon Even with all of these luxuries, the A7 still offers a wagon-storage feel to it as well. Under the rear hatch, which doesn't really look like a hatch, is 24.5 cubic feet of storage space, which is more than enough to put a foursome's golf bags back there and still have room for more. It's easy to load and easy to use, as a push of a button will open the liftgate. And still, it just looks...

2012 Audi A7 Sportback — Review

...One of our favorite tricks is the optional touch pad for the navigation system. It is capable of translating your finger motions into the letters of the alphabet. The fact that the system means no more clicking through your ABCs via an awkward wheel is a miracle in and of itself. It's such a logical design progression that we suspect we'll find variants of the innovative technology in competitors' offerings soon.On the RoadAudi seems to have translated all of its know-how on building a great-handling large sedan into the A7 Sportback. Like most of the company's megacruisers, the A7 uses...

...there were small pockets in each of the four doors, netted pockets on the back of both front seats, two cupholders for the front passengers and two more within the center armrest for the rear passengers. It's just enough to get the job done. The A7 only has two seats in the back, but it will fit two adults and their legs. Bonus! My daughters (both in booster seats) had plenty of room to dangle their growing legs freely without "accidentally" and repetitively kicking the back of my seat. IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS THAT COUNT Storage Compartments (Puny, Fair, Ample, Galore): Fair Cargo/Trunk Space...

...Instead of do-it-all knobs that dial fan speed, temperature, fan direction, and seat heat, the layout has reverted to that of a normal, sane car. The radio controls are still terrible, with the volume and seek buttons to the right of the shifter. Adding to the confusion is a main dial for the infotainment system that turns counter-clockwise. All in all, it's a delicious recipe for driver distraction. Oddly enough, the wide LCD in the instrument panel, controlled by an easy steering wheel switch, is very intuitive and can operate most of the car's everyday functions. Materials are impressive...

...All A7s — perhaps all Audis — should include keyless entry as well as keyless start. Many Nissans, Fords and even Kias are available with that feature for half the cost of the Prestige model, which is the only A7 to offer it. The navigation system is downright beautiful, using Google's satellite imagery. The A7 also comes with an optional wireless internet system that uses 3G signals to create up to eight Wi-Fi access points. During my test, I found it as responsive as my 3G iPhone, which was faster using its own connection than it was using the Audi's. However, the 3G system can...
