2007 acura rdx Professional Edmunds Review
Source: Edmunds

...It's capable of 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission with sequential shifting is standard. Power is sent to all four wheels through an all-wheel-drive system (SH-AWD) similar to the one used for the RL luxury sedan. The system is able to not only distribute torque between the front and rear axles but also between the left and right wheels. The result is a claimed improvement in steering and power response during cornering, as extra drive torque can be supplied to the outside rear tire. Towing capacity is listed at 1500 pounds. Safety: Standard...

...for a driver intent on upshifts, and holding r.p.m. on downshifts (something I found added great throttle control for steering). As with most of the cars in this sport class of crossovers, cornering was better than I have found in many sedans. No, it's not a Porsche Cayman S, but with judicious use of gas, brakes, and shift paddles, it can be hurled quite aggressively into corners and come out looking flat and fast. In more sedate travel on the highway or winding back roads, it is easy to tuck the sport away and opt for quiet cruising. It is billed as a five-seater, but is more comfortable...

...RDX uses a multifunction knob to control climate, audio and other functions. It makes a chore out of such simple tasks as changing a radio station. The test RDX came with an optional Technology Package that includes some desirable features, such as reverse-view camera, navigation and a other goodies. My favorite: a superb surround-sound audio system. BOTTOM LINE: An excellent new entry from Acura, which is as well-known for reliability as luxury. Acura RDX Vehicle type: Five-passenger, four-door SUV, all-wheel drive. Engine: 2.3-liter turbocharged inline 4, 240 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, 260...

...intercooled 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine with 240 horsepower and a solid 260 pound-feet of torque because a potent V6 engine reportedly wouldn't fit.The dual overhead camshaft 16-valve engine whisks the RDX to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and allows quick merges and passing on highways. Power delivery is linear, with almost no turbocharger lag.Marginal Fuel EconomyThe RDX is quick, despite weighing almost 4,000 pounds. Acura was shooting for V6 performance and 4-cylinder fuel economy. But the RDX's weight results in so-so fuel economy for a compact crossover: an estimated 19 mpg in the city and 23 on...

...The mileage figures for the 2007 X3 are not yet available. On the downside, the RDX requires more expensive premium fuel. While the RDX's powertrain is a winner, the ride is bumpy and bouncy, our panel noted, especially at highway speeds, in part because of the new Acura's relatively short 104.3-inch wheelbase. The RDX is outfitted with a multi-link independent rear suspension and torque-sensing, variable-assist rack-and-pinion power steering, which helps to give it more car-like ride and handling -- but not enough to make the architects totally happy. The group seemed like they could care...

2007 Acura RDX Overview

...A variable flow turbocharger gets the efficient 2.3 liter engine's horsepower up to 240, providing 260 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. Unfortunately, the 2007 RDX also gets gas efficiency more similar to that of a V6 car than an I4: 19 city and 23 highway. These numbers are still pretty great for an SUV.The interior is decidedly cushy, and cozy without feeling small. The little SUV is built on the same platform at the Honda CR-V and seats 5. There are plentiful electronics in the dash for passengers to fiddle with.Drivers of this car love the tight handling, although some have complained about...

...a navigation system, a rearview camera and several other features, which make this perhaps the most sophisticated smaller SUV on the market. Front seats are comfortable and roomy; rear seats are fine for two, suitable for three. There is no third row. Overall length is 180.7 inches, 2 inches longer than the 2007 Honda CR-V. On the road, the RDX handles very well, thanks in part to its big 18-inch tires and wheels. The ride on the highway, though, was a little rougher than expected. I would give up a little cornering prowess for a better ride, because despite its pretensions, this is, after...

...Same with plastic rocker-panel covers. If damaged by road debris, you replace just the skin. The front bumper comes with a two-piece plastic shell so you can replace only the lower part after a parking-lot scrape. The RDX starts at $32,995 and, with the only option, the Technology package at $3,500, the sticker shoots to $36,495. Standard equipment includes dual-zone automatic climate control with air filtration; heated outside mirrors with integrated turn signals (the passenger side mirror tilts down when backing up); power moonroof with tilt; 60/40 split-folding rear seats; eight-way power...

...six air bags, xenon headlights, tire-pressure monitoring, power moon roof, heated outside mirrors with reverse tilt-down, speed-sensitive wipers, leather heated seats, and enough bins, compartments and squirrel holes to carry Rush Limbaugh's entire personal stash. The one option is the technology package (about $3,000), which bundles together the navigation system, with best-in-class voice recognition and real-time traffic info; Bluetooth phone connection; and GPS-linked, solar-sensing, dual-zone climate control. Let me unpack that last one for you. The car will monitor its position relative...

...Center console storage space is growing on U.S.-market vehicles; the RDX's lockable bin can accept a laptop computer. Standard features include leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats and a moonroof. An optional Technology Package adds a 410-watt, 10-speaker audio system, a voice-recognition navigation system with traffic information and a rearview camera. Passenger volume measures 101.4 cubic feet, while maximum cargo volume with the rear seats folded is 60.6 cubic feet. In contrast, the X3 offers less passenger volume (90.1) but more maximum cargo space...
