Speaking with Automotive News at the recent Detroit Auto Show, Honda boss Takeo Fukui confirmed the introduction of a diesel powered Acura and said other models in Honda/Acura’s U.S. lineup would get diesel power as well. Other engines expected to feature in the TSX lineup include two petrol engines of 2.0L and 2.4L capacities, and possibly a turbocharged version.
"All along, we've said there would be a diesel in Acura," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co. "The whole direction is to separate Acura and Honda more. In five to six years, Acura will be a tier 1 luxury brand. The face of Acura will be totally different," he boasted.
Next year will also see the launch of a brand new TL sedan, Colliver revealed, and this could be followed in 2010 by a new V6 diesel.

Acura has to know that these 2 vehicles will make or break them. The RL was a dud, the RDX has not exactly been a hit, the MDX is doing as good as the previous generation .. the TL has been there big winner in sales & the TSX has one them numerous accolades. If they botch these up, Acura may end up like Buick/Volvo/Saab ....

LOL this is Honda we're talking about they can easily pick up any slack. In addition, Buick/Volvo/Saab are owned by American car companies... I'm not bashing the American companies, they suffered b/c of their procrastination to pick up their major slumps in sales and quality. However they have acted upon this recently and are improving drastically. Honda is strong and Acura (Honda) will never end up in a situation like one of those companies.

I know that having a 4 cylinder was a major complaint among the Acura naysayers (right after no RWD or V8) ... people still criticized the turbo 4 cylinder in the RDX ... I wonder if the turbo diesel will finally make the critics happy? Of is Acura always gonna be that off-beat near luxury brand, not that theres anything wrong with that but they are the ones who keep talking about separating themselves from Honda & going up market.

The haters don't have any real beef with the engines. They're just people that are mad that the Americans got slaughtered by the Japanese and they'll bash anything that the Japanese make no matter how much better it is than the American cars they buy.

An Acura TL diesel would be great. I'd consider buying one if the car is nice. Regarding your comments of Volvo, you know not about what you speak.
Wisely, Ford left Volvo alone in it's product development/Management and a lot of Volvo's design was taken by Ford to improve their products. Looking at Volvo's product line is expanding and for 2007 their global sales are up 7%.

Have any of you ever visted a Acura dealership latley. The TSX and TL are very well equipped vehicles. There is no problem that they do not offer any options because their vehicles are loaded with more options then many of the other manufacturers. The new TSX will be a big hit as it is said to come with SH-AWD just like the TL. If you know how the system works you would know that it is the most benificial AWD system out there.
Check out your local dealer then you can debate about what Acura has to offer.
