VW’s next Polo will feature a more chiseled look as seen on the new Mark VI Golf

Volkswagen’s updated Polo hatch is due to bow in around the middle of next year as a 2010 model and will initially be launched in both three and five-door hatch variants. Further down the track, the Polo range will be expanded with several different variants including a possible cabrio, long-wheelbase MPV, and even a mini-SUV or ‘Cross Polo’.

As this latest rendering suggests, the new Polo will feature a more chiseled look as seen on the recently launched Mark VI Golf. The new model will be slightly bigger than the current version, helping to it compete with the recently updated Ford Fiesta and Honda Fit – both of which have grown in size. This will also leave room for VW’s smaller entry based on the up! concept, which is rumored to be called the Chico and destined to spawn a family of new minicars.

The next-gen Polo will also get VW’s new low-cost six-speed DSG and when combined with an efficient BlueMotion turbodiesel should deliver fuel-economy better than 60mpg (3.9L/100km).

New to the model family will be a mild hybrid option with regenerative braking technology and electronically controlled components. Carrying over from the current lineup will be a performance GTI model, possibly featuring VW’s brilliant 170hp (125kW) 1.4L TSI engine.

Could you please give me an indication of the price of the Polo 4 door and hatch version, including Radio and on board computer. When will they come onto the market in SA. Will there be a sedan version with a boot? The car looks very nice.

I wish VW would sell these in the US, especially the TDI version
I saw a Top Gear episode with a POLO TDI that got 70+ MPG.

VW is considering the next gen Polo for the USA, which is great, especially if they do the rumored awd perfromance version
