The handsome Genesis G80 sails into the 2018 model year with a new performance-oriented option dubbed the G80 Sport.
The vehicle was teased at the global reveal of the G80 in June but now it’s finally out in the open. It’s on display this week at the 2016 Los Angeles auto show.
The G80 Sport is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6 and has a stout 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. This puts it in the middle of the G80 pack, with the base model continuing with its 3.8-liter V-6 and 311 hp and 293 lb-ft, and the range-topper with its 5.0-liter V-8 and 420 hp and 383 lb-ft.
In addition to the new powertrain, the G80 Sport also benefits from a more aggressive tune for the G80’s 8-speed automatic, adjustable dampers for the suspension, and uprated brakes with ventilated discs. Rear-wheel drive remains standard but buyers can opt for all-wheel drive.
Unique treatments for the exterior include the more aggressive front bumper, chunky side sills, and rear diffuser. The grille and 19-inch wheels also get a dark finish. In the cabin, the G80 Sport features real carbon fiber dash accents and aluminum pedals. There is also leather trim for the seats and steering wheel, accented by contrast stitching.
All 2018 Genesis G80s benefit from the latest in multimedia and connectivity technology, including standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support plus available wireless device charging. The grille and front bumper have also received a revised look and are joined by new wheel patterns. Improved materials including real aluminum are found in the cabin.
The complete 2018 Genesis G80 range will be in showrooms by spring 2017. Pricing hasn’t been announced but the starting figure should lie close to the $42,350 of the 2017 model.
