GMC’s Canyon, along with the related Colorado from sister brand Chevrolet, was revived for the 2015 model year and saw General Motors Company [NYSE:GM] once again offer a mid-size pickup truck to counter the likes of the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma. For 2017, the Canyon borrows the Denali trim from its Sierra big brother in order to become the first premium offering in the mid-size truck segment.

This 2017 GMC Canyon Denali will be formally introduced tomorrow at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show before reaching showrooms sometime in late 2016. It will be offered as a crew cab only, with buyers able to choose from two- or four-wheel-drive configurations.

The standard powertrain will be the Canyon’s 3.6-liter V-6, good for 305 horsepower and 7,000 pounds of towing capability. Those looking to tow more can opt for a new 2.8-liter diesel mill offering up a tow rating of 7,700 lbs.

Like all Denali models, the new Canyon Denali is distinguished by its custom grille and wheels package. The standard wheels are a 20-inch aluminum set with painted accents. The truck also sports several chrome details, such as the fog lam bezels, side steps and exhaust tip.

For the interior, there’s perforated leather trim finished in black and the front seats get heating and ventilation. A unique instrument panel, special console trim and several Denali logos also set the Canyon Denali from the standard pack.

On top of this, there’s a long list of standard tech goodies. Items include GMC IntelliLink infotainment with an 8.0-inch touchscreen display, navigation, OnStar 4G LTE connectivity with Wi-Fi hotspot, remote engine start, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, and electronic driver aids including Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning.
