Mercedes-Benz has today unveiled the GLE450 AMG 4Matic. It joins the growing range of AMG sport models that already includes the GLE450 AMG 4Matic Coupe and C450 AMG 4Matic models. The AMG sport cars sit between the most potent of the standard Mercedes models and the dedicated Mercedes-AMG offerings. The cars are developed by the Mercedes-AMG skunkworks but are officially recognized as Mercedes-Benz products.

Common to the AMG sport models is a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine that delivers 362 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. In the GLE450 AMG 4Matic, the engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and spins all four wheels via a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes quotes a 0-62 mph time of just 5.7 seconds and a top speed capped at 155 mph for the vehicle.

Along with the extra poke from the engine bay over the regular GLE fleet, the GLE450 AMG 4Matic also benefits from sport-tuning of the suspension, steering and electronic stability control. Also unique to this model is the shorter final drive ratio of 3.47:1. Other features include air suspension, 20-inch wheels (21-inch wheels are available), a body kit and a Dynamic Select system with Individual, Comfort, Slippery, Sport and Sport Plus driving modes.

The interior of the GLE450 AMG 4Matic is enhanced by a Nappa leather-lined sports steering wheel and real aluminum dash accents. A mix of carbon fiber and piano black surfaces can also be found, and for the pedals the designers have gone with stainless steel.

Some of the available extras include two-tone Nappa leather trim, COMAND Online Internet connectivity, premium BeoSound audio from Bang & Olufsen, and numerous electronic driver aids.

Look for the new GLE450 AMG 4Matic to make its world debut at next month’s 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. Another AMG sport model we’re expecting in the not too distant future is the SLC450 AMG. The new sports car has already been spotted in prototype form and is expected to feature the same turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 of its AMG sport brethren.
