The Chevrolet SS will get some performance-inspired exterior tweaks for the 2016 model year, including functional hood vents, LED lighting and new 19-inch wheels.
As the Australian-market Holden Commodore on which the Chevy is based recently received similar treatments, the changes were widely expected. The move is designed to spice up the current model's relatively understated exterior and provide a better indication of its athletic performance.

No changes have been made under the the hood, as General Motors Company's [NYSE:GM] 6.2-liter LS3 V-8 will continue to provide 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque.
For purists, the manual transmission option added for 2015 is still available. The alternative is a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters.

Updates aside, the big question is whether the SS will survive beyond the 2017 calendar year, as that's when Holden is set to wind up production for good and retire the rear-wheel-drive Zeta platform on which the Commodore/SS is based. Given the somewhat lackluster sales the model has generated, it seems likely Chevy's four-door bruiser will vanish with its Australian cousin.
