Not only is this sale an opportunity to own a Hennessey Venom GT. It's an opportunity to own the example used to make the 270.49 mph run which proved John Hennessey's V-8-powered, Lotus-based supercar could best the the top speed of Bugatti's formidable Veyron.

Given the performance and pedigree, you've probably already guessed the one-of-11, road-legal rocket won't go cheap. Though buyers who can cough up the $1.4 million asking price will get the added bonus of having something in common with Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, who brought his Venom to the famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance last year. Of course, if that's all you're looking for, it'd be cheaper to just never be seen wearing less than a dozen scarves.

All kidding aside, the Venom GT is no joke. Its twin-turbo V-8 produces over 1,200 horsepower, it'll shoot from 0-60 mph in a scant 2.7 seconds, and it holds a world record for hitting 186 mph in just 13.63 seconds. It's a truly mind-blowing creation—even a 3.2-mile Space Shuttle-grade runway isn't long enough to see how fast it'll actually go.

But of course, Hennessey isn't one to rest on its laurels. The company is currently working on its next project—the Venom F5—which is expected to crest the 290 mph mark.

Here's hoping this car goes to someone who stretches its legs once in a while, and doesn't just rub it with a diaper.
