If you've been longing to find that entry-level luxury car, yet you have no desire to swim in that sea of sameness occupied by the Germans and the Japanese, then you're in luck. Your new ride has arrived, and it's called the 2017 Jaguar XE. This is the U.S-production spec car making its debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, and it's quite possible that it could put a rather stylish dent in the more affordable end of the luxury sedan segment.

There's no word yet on pricing, but we expect it to be competitive in its set. That means one can opt for a car designed by Ian Callum's team, at a price usually occupied by cars quickly designed by teams of robots and engineers and engineer robots. Beyond the baby XF/XJ design though, the car boasts a swank interior, a smart aluminum chassis, and an engine that's more than good enough for the ear-coddling Jaguar F-Type V6.

Under the hood sits a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine that produces 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. That allows the 3,249-pound sedan to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds. If you have the room (and lawyers on retainer) you can run all the way up to the car's electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. That power and speed is sent to the wheels by way of a ZF eight-speed automatic, which can be shifted via a pair of steering wheel-mounted paddles.

For those that like things at a slower pace, the new XE is expected to be available with some four-cylinder engines as well. Rear-wheel drive will be standard across the range, but all-wheel drive will be available.
