The Ariel Atom remains one of the all-time great automobiles thanks to its no-nonsense approach to speed. It's a bare-bones racing machine that gives its driver exactly what he or she needs to be the fastest one on the track, and nothing more. Ariel expanded its madness to the two-wheeled world when it introduced the Ace motorcycle. Now the British brand is about to get dirty with its latest beast; the Nomad.

Essentially, what you're looking at is the love-child result of a wonderful evening spent between an Atom and a Baja Wide Open Buggy. Take the exposed roll cage of the Atom, and then stretch it up and over the roof area of the car. Now add larger tires, an increased ride height, and greater suspension travel, and you basically have the Nomad.

This buff buggy is powered by a 2.4-liter Honda four-cylinder engine, which is good for 235 horsepower. Ariel says the Nomad will dash from 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, and blast onward to a 125 mph top speed. Those figures are for on-road acceleration, but it should prove to be quite blistering off the road as well.

Ariel will offer a number of custom features so that owners can spec a Nomad to their liking. The starting price is around $45,000, and we're sure there will be many fun ways to make that number a bit larger.
