MINI’s new 5 Door unveiled last summer will be called the Hardtop 4 Door when it goes on sale in the U.S. in January. The name change was announced at this week’s Los Angeles Auto Show, where the vehicle is being showcased alongside the tasty Superleggera Vision concept car.

The Hardtop 4 Door arrives as a 2015 model and will be priced from $22,550, including an $850 destination charge. This pricing is for the base Cooper Hardtop 4 Door. Opt for the sportier Cooper S Hardtop 4 Door and you’re looking at a price tag of $25,950. That works out to be a $1,000 premium for the extra doors compared to pricing for the regular Hardtop, which incidentally has been renamed the Hardtop 2 Door.

To fit the second pair of doors along the sides, MINI stretched the regular Hardtop’s wheelbase by 2.83 inches, as well as creating 0.6 of an inch more headroom and another 2.4 inches of cross-wise interior width at elbow height. The rear seat can accommodate three passengers, assuming they’re small, and offers a 60/40 split fold-down. Total luggage area space is 9.8 cubic feet, up 2.3 cubic feet from the regular Hardtop.

Power in the base Cooper Hardtop 4 Door comes from a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine good for 124 horsepower. Cooper S trim bumps this up to 189 hp, courtesy of a turbocharged 2.0-liter four. Either engine can be had with the choice of a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
