The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is almost ready for its showroom debut early next year, where it will be priced from just $78,995 with shipping. But before production of customer cars can get underway, just a few more tests need to be completed, one of which is a mandatory high-speed test on Germany’s grueling Nürburgring.

Yes, a bright yellow 2015 Z06 has just been spotted on the ‘Ring, with some of its runs featured in this video from Bridge To Gantry. As the video confirms, the new Z06 sounds as awesome as it looks. It also looks ridiculously fast, by the way.

We suspect Chevy engineers are attempting to set an official Nürburgring lap time for the new Z06, just as they did with previous Corvette variants like the C6-based ZR1. Considering Chevy has already confirmed the new Z06 equipped with its available Z07 Performance Package is faster than the ZR1 on most test tracks, it’s almost certain it will be faster here as well.

The best time set by a Corvette at the ‘Ring is 7:19.63, which the ZR1 set back in 2011. Of course, Nissan’s GT-R NISMO set a time of 7:08.679 late last year and Porsche’s 918 Spyder still holds the production car record with a mind-bending time of 6:57.

As mentioned, the new Z06 goes on sale early next year. It’s powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 good for 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. If you’ve got some time on your hand, Chevy even has a configurator up for the car that allows you to play around with some of the options. Hopefully we’ll be able to bring you some driving impressions of the car soon.
