Opel’s Adam minicar first hit the scene in 2012 and has since been turned into a race car as well as an upmarket version enhanced by Bitter. Now, the first performance-enhanced version of the Adam has been revealed, the new Adam S, which makes its debut next month at the 2014 Paris Auto Show.

At the heart of the Adam S is a new turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine dishing out 150 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. That’s 50 percent greater potency than the stock Adam, although with a 0-62 mph time of 8.5 seconds the Adam S still isn't much of a threat to rival hot hatches like the MINI Cooper S.

The car's engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and drives the front wheels. Top speed of the Adam S is said to be “well over” 124 mph.

In addition to the new engine, a specially tuned chassis and a braking system from Opel’s in-house tuner OPC ensures that the pocket rocket stays on the road even at high speeds. Finally, the vehicle sports a set of 18-inch wheels shod with 225/35 size tires.

Further setting apart the Adam S from the regular Adam are a few visual enhancements. These include a front lip spoiler, side sills, rear spoiler and rear bumper insert. There are also a total of ten exterior color choices plus four additional roof combinations, including the Red ‘n’ Roll combination you see here, which is reserved exclusively for Adam S buyers.

The Adam S will be available to order this November in markets where Opels are sold. Although General Motors Company [NYSE:GM] is attempting to more closely align the Opel lineup with that of Buick, we don’t see the Adam S being offered here anytime soon.
