The racetrack isn't the natural habit of a Land Rover, but the upcoming 2015 Range Rover Sport SVR is a very special Land Rover indeed.

The British carmaker decided to tease the Internet with the sound of the SVR roaring down a track's main straight ahead of its August 14 unveiling at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Not surprisingly, it sounds pretty mean.

Previewed at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the SVR will be the sportiest production Land Rover ever. With a 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 producing 550 horsepower and a host of other modifications, it could be the sportiest SUV, period.

The SVR has already claimed the title of fastest production SUV around the Nurburgring Nordschliefe, with a documented lap time of 8 minutes, 14 seconds. That makes it faster than an Acura NSX, not to mention the BMW X5/X6 M, Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG, and company.

The SVR will be built by Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, which will handle all of the two automakers' limited-production and bespoke models from now on. Given the performance on tap, it seems like the perfect name for the group that will unleash this super SUV on the world.

The 2015 Range Rover Sport SVR is expected to go on sale sometime next year. Check back here for more updates ahead of its August 14 unveiling.
