With the first P1s now on their way to their eagerly awaiting customers, McLaren is finally confirming some of the car’s performance figures. Many of the specs we already know but now they are no longer preliminary figures: they are what the 375 buyers of the P1 will actually be able to experience.

Starting with acceleration, McLaren claims the P1 will accelerate to 62 mph from rest in just 2.8 seconds, pass 124 mph in 6.8 seconds, and hit 186 mph in an incredible 16.5 seconds or about 5.5 seconds quicker than the legendary F1. The quarter mile ET is 9.8 seconds with a trap speed of 152 mph, and top speed is 217 mph (electronic limited).

For anyone thinking the P1 may be lacking because ‘humbler’ cars can outmatch it in some categories, recall that the design goal of the P1 was to build the best driver’s car on road and track; not simply the fastest. In addition, as we’ve seen with 12C, McLaren has been understating the performance of its cars.

So what else do we know? The P1’s bespoke Akebono brakes and Pirelli tires help bring the car to a stop from 62 mph in a distance of 99 feet (2.9 seconds) and from 186 mph in 806 feet (6.2 seconds). Unfortunately, we still don't have the elusive Nürburgring lap time, but hopefully we will soon.

Despite its impressive figures, the P1 still returns an economic 28 mpg in European combined cycle testing. An electric only mode means owners will be able to drive their cars with zero emissions for about 6.8 miles. You’ll recall that the P1 is a plug-in hybrid with a combined output of 903 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque.

Pictured in the gallery above is the very first P1 to roll off the line. It’s finished in Volcano Yellow with a contrast of visible carbon fiber. Its owner chose to pick up the car at McLaren’s headquarters in Woking, England.

As previously reported, only 375 examples will be built. Pricing in the U.S. is set at $1.15 million but at that rate we’re sure our allocation is already sold out.
