When your tagline is "The best or nothing," you go to great lengths to ensure your vehicles are innovative, ground breaking and of the highest quality. In the case of the new Mercedes-Benz flagship, the S-Class, the attention to detail is taken to a whole new level as pointed out in this video, first picked up by Jalopnik.

Mercedes-Benz is in the midst of launching its redesigned 2014 S-Class, and it's calling it the best car in the world. For decades it's been one of the benchmarks in the car world, and the new car is mounting some fresh hardware to back up the automaker's claims.

We are told the three engineering priorities for the new S-Class were: "Intelligent Drive, Efficient Technology and Essence of Luxury." These elements are what supposedly raise the bar for the automotive universe, and set the S-Class as the standard.

The first S-Class coming to the U.S. is the S550, powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.6-liter V-8 engine connected to a seven-speed automatic transmission. There's a choice of rear or all-wheel drive, and adaptive air suspension is standard.

Following the S550 into Mercedes-Benz showrooms will be the 2014 S63 AMG with 577 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. A plug-in hybrid model is being announced at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show in September.

We drove the 2014 S-Class

and found it to be an effortless performer. It's a tour de force when it comes to technology, and in a way it puts the competition on notice.

The bottom line is simple: Mercedes-Benz has put in the hours, and sweated the details. This is all evident when you see, feel, and drive the new 2014 S-Class.
