Only 50 of the Clubvans were sold earlier this year, and MINI isn't selling any more. The Clubvan has been withdrawn from the market. Why? As Green Car Reports learned from MINI USA communications manager Nathalie Bauters, "relatively low demand and the effect of an excessive 25-percent tax on vehicles for commercial use (known as 'the Chicken Tax')."
With a number of configurations available for the Clubvan, it was intended to become a sort of mini-Sprinter, a basic commercial runabout that could be outfitted for a variety of professions.
Just 30.3 cubic feet of total cargo area in a space measuring 44.8 inches long and 40.1 inches high left the Clubvan clearly limited in big-job materials and tools capacity--despite the maximum payload capacity of 816 pounds.
