Bentley’s first-ever SUV, the Bentayga, hasn’t even reached the market but the British ultra-luxury brand is already considering whether to add a second high-riding model to its lineup. The reason is insatiable demand for SUVs all over the globe but particularly in China, where some analysts are predicting as many as six million SUV sales this year alone.

We’ve previously bought you news on a smaller, coupe-like SUV being considered by Bentley, and now one of the automaker’s senior executives, engineering chief Rolf Frech, has revealed to Autocar that a second SUV model at the brand remains “a possibility”. Frech explained that if Bentley did launch a second SUV, it would be a “different kind of car,” which ties in with the earlier news of a coupe-like version.

Bentley sold just over 11,000 vehicles in 2014, a new record for the brand. However, CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer is reportedly keen to get this tally up to 20,000 units by the end of the decade. The launch of the Bentayga next year should see roughly 3,000 vehicles added to Bentley’s annual sales tally, though this could be a conservative amount considering the brand already has 4,000 expressions of interest in the upcoming SUV, but even with strong sales of the Bentayga Dürheimer will be short of his target.

That’s where new models like the second SUV as well as a possible sports car based on the well-received EXP 10 Speed 6 concept fit into the picture. On top of this, we’re also expecting a new Mulsanne convertible based on Bentley’s recent Grand Convertible Concept, which could revive the Azure nameplate.
