At the time, Volvo stated the concept was developed to Polestar’s preferences though it was originally commissioned by an individual client willing to purchase it once all promotional duties were done.
We can now reveal that the amount paid for the concept by that individual was $300,000.
The information was revealed to Piston Heads, who were provided with an opportunity to take the special S60 for a quick spin.
Based on the Volvo S60 race car fielded by Polestar in the TTA Swedish racing series, the concept is powered by an uprated version of the turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six engine found in the regular S60 T6 model. Thanks to an enlarged turbocharger from Garret, as well as a number of reinforced internals, the engine’s output has been lifted from a stock 300 horsepower to a supercar-rivaling 508 horsepower.
In combination with the engine mods, the drivetrain and chassis were also upgraded. The standard gearbox was replaced with a reinforced six-speed manual unit and the Haldex all-wheel drive system tweaked. Other modifications include a custom bodykit and carbon fiber diffuser, plus a set of beefy Brembo brakes.
Volvo estimates the Polestar-enhanced S60 will hit 60 mph from rest in 3.9 seconds and top out at more than 186 mph.
If you happen to want one, Volvo is more than happy to build you one as long as you front up the $300,000 asking price first.
