Ever wondered what would happen if you put a Veyron-beating 1,200 horsepower into the lightweight body of the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4?

Wonder no more as the guys from Underground Racing have done just that, tweaking the Aventador’s 6.5-liter V-12 engine until the dyno charts looked like something Bugatti’s engineers would be familiar with.

Underground Racing has become synonymous with tuned exotics, releasing a number of high-horsepower cars over the years including Gallardos with more than 1,500 horsepower on tap and top speeds in excess of 250 mph.

By comparison, Underground Racing’s latest package for the Aventador looks tame, but you can bet the company, based in Charlotte, NC, will be brewing up something even more insane.

This initial package, which has just gone on sale, adds a twin-turbocharging kit to the Aventador’s V-12, lifting output from a stock 690 horsepower to around 1,200. This isn’t just some backyard bolt-on kit, however.

The guys at Underground Racing, using experience gained from years of twin-turbocharging Italy’s finest, have completely rebuilt the engine with uprated internals and reinforced the gearbox. Customers can even order a special Quickshift feature for the gearbox. Importantly, the car’s all-wheel drive system has been maintained.

Underground Racing is yet to publish final numbers but the company estimates that its 1,200-horsepower Lamborghini Aventador will go from 0-60 mph in just 2.2 seconds. That’s 0.7 of a second quicker than the stock version and 0.3 of a second quicker than the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport!
