Like its hard top compadre, the ZL1 convertible will be powered by a 580-horsepower LSA 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine, making it the most potent Chevy convertible ever.
"This is a car that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face every time you drop the top – or hit the gas," said Al Oppenheiser, the Camaro's chief engineer.
Changes from the coupe include a tower brace under the hood, a transmission reinforcement brace, an underbody tunnel brace, and a set of X and V braces under the body--all aimed at stiffening the chassis to better handle and apply all the power the mighty LSA generates. Otherwise, the ZL1 convertible will share its running gear and features with the coupe.
The ZL1 convertible will go on sale in late 2012, several months after the early 2012 start for the coupe. We'll be on hand at the LA Auto Show to bring you all the latest details and live photos, so stay tuned.
