We reported just this month that customers in the U.S. were holding off on buying the Nissan GT-R in the lead up to the arrival of the facelifted 2012 model, which has been trickling into showrooms this past few weeks. It now appears the wait for the new GT-R will be slightly longer as the recent earthquake disaster in Japan is set to delay shipments of more cars.
Nissan states that it has a healthy amount of 2012 model GT-Rs already in the U.S. though the company can’t confirm if any of the awaiting vehicles in Japan have been destroyed.
The Tochigi plant in Japan where the GT-R is built is one of six Nissan plants that have reported damage since the earthquake and has stopped operations.
Some Infiniti models, as well as the Nissan 370Z sports car, are also expected to be delayed. Customers awaiting the arrival of their Nissan Leaf electric cars, however, will be happy to know that a batch of 600 cars managed to leave Japan just before the earthquake struck.
