The current 997 generation Porsche 911 is on its way out, set to be replaced at the end of this year by the brand new ‘991’ family, and in Porsche tradition a number of special editions based on the outgoing model are typically rolled out to mark the end of its life. We’ve already seen cars like the 911 Speedster, GTS and more recent Black Edition make their debut, and according to a new report there may also be a special version of the hardcore Porsche 911 GT3 RS released.

The new car is expected to be called the Porsche 911 GT3 RS Limited Edition and thought to have ditched the regular 911 GT3 RS model’s 3.8-liter engine in favor of a new 4.0-liter flat-six developing upwards of 500 horsepower.

We may also see the 911 GT3 RS Limited Edition debut with the rumored ‘PDK-S’ dual clutch transmission, which is thought to be offered on the next-generation of the track-focused GT3 line.

Full details are expected to be released on April 7, with production of the car likely to start shortly after.
