Then, last Friday, we finally got confirmation that a new high-end sports car based on the Vision EfficientDynamics would be launched in October 2013. What BMW didn’t reveal is just what powertrain/chassis combo will actually make it to production, but we do know that plug-in hybrid capability and lightweight carbon fiber construction will feature prominently on the new car.
We now have a video showcasing a working prototype of the Vision EfficientDynamics plug-in hybrid sports car, complete with BMW’s usual patterned camouflage and a fully functioning powertrain. The prototype is most likely running a downsized three-cylinder turbodiesel with a hybrid synchronous motor at the front axle and a full-hybrid engine at the rear axle, just like the original concept car.
After the video, grab full details of BMW’s production plans for the new Vision EfficientDynamics in our previous story by clicking here.
