It's no coincidence, but the cars we'd most like to drive are often track-only race cars. Case in point: the BMW Z4 GT3. Powered by an M3 GT2-derived 4.0-liter V-8 engine cranking out 480 horsepower, it's the leanest and meanest member of the Z4 family.

That honking V-8 is paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox, full-race suspension and aerodynamics, and a lightweight, minimalist package making for what's sure to be a mean track performer. The car, announced last December, will be campaigned in FIA GT3 events by Schubert Racing.

Unfortunately, the car doesn't foretell the Z4 M--high-performance production car duty for the Z4 is being handled by the Z4 sDrive35is, the 335-horsepower, twin-turbo N54-powered car unveiled earlier this year.

Still, we can dream of the experience of driving this ultimate Z4--though at an asking price of about $405,000, that's all we'll be doing. For more BMW racing goodness, check out the M3 GT4 and M3 GTS.
