Though Toyota is calling the restyled 2011 Avalon a "dynamic" and "boldly redesigned" sedan, it looks more like a conservatively styled update to our eye. The more aggressive front end and defined rear fender bulge do add a more distinctive look to what is often one of the beigest boxes on the road, but it's still the same familiar profile.

Updates inside focus on more premium materials and new technology. The navigation system is upgraded, featuring Bluetooth phone support and audio streaming plus real-time traffic with a touchscreen interface, while wood-grain trim, available leather seating and thicker stitching offer a tweaked take on a familiar setting.

The 3.5-liter, 268-horsepower V-6 engine carries forward from the 2010 model, paired once again to a six-speed automatic. Fuel economy ratings jump 1 mpg to 20 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, however.

Three new colors, Zephyr Blue Metallic, Cypress Pear and Sizzling Crimson Mica, bring the total of available paint jobs to nine, while inside the same set of six available colors carrys over from the previous model. Two trim levels, Avalon and Limited, offer a choice between well-equipped basics and a slightly more luxurious feel.

The 2011 Toyota Avalon will hit dealerships this Spring.
