Pagani to build 750BHP Zonda R, new C9 due in 2009

Pagani has confirmed that its 750bhp Zonda R track car will be put into production with a mere 10 examples only expected to see the light of day. Six deposits have already been placed for the €1.2 million Ferrari FXX rival and the first deliveries should start in March of next year, reports UK's Evo magazine.

Concept sketches of the new Zonda R revealed a car that looks much like the regular C12 version but only 10% of parts are expected to be shared between the two. The Zonda R will feature a longer wheelbase, measuring 394mm all up, and its track will be widened by 50mm.

The car’s aerodynamics will be improved thanks to a larger rear-diffuser and spoiler, all finished in carbon-fiber. Developing 750bhp will be another Mercedes-AMG sourced engine, derived from the unit used in the CLK GTR racer.

At the same time, Pagani will be moving into a new production facility, which reportedly will allow it to lift production to around 60 cars per year from the current 16. The move is necessary for the ramp up of plans for an all-new C9 model that’s due in 2009. This latest model will be homologated for new markets, which means it will also be sold in the US and Japan.

A lot actually. The word that comes to mind is *gall*, as in *unmitigated*. Who does this guy think he is that his cars can command prices well above and beyond more established marques like Ferrari and Porsche? How many F1 titles has Pagani won? How many times has it taken the flag at Le Mans?

Have you ever seen Pagani at the Mille Miglia? The Targa Florio? Surely it at least has done Spa or Sebring or Monza? No? How about Daytona? Anything at all? Where's the history, the heritage, the PASSION of the marque?

Why would anyone choose a Zonda over an Enzo or a Carrera GT or a Murcielago? No... wait... Why would anyone pay TWICE the price and more of those hallowed names for an AMG V12 with a horrendous interior and a questionable exterior?

Maybe in 50 years Pagani will command the same respect as Enzo or Ferdinand or Ferucchio but make no mistake: right now he's a nobody who is selling toys to those who have too much money and no taste.

PS - Same thing goes for Koenigsegg and his Ford V8 powered cars and Saleen and his Corvette knock offs.

First off your taste should not be a barometer of whether this car's exterior and interior good looking or not. If you think that it's shit there are plenty of people who could say the same thing about your taste. Secondly, not too many people who buy an Enzo give a fuck about Mille Miglia or Le Mans... They buy it for what it stands... A supercar. With a questionable exterior, at that... And guess what, if people buy it, then it's worth what it costs because if it didn't they wouldn't have bought it in the first place. Sorry that not everyone shares your point of view. Perhaps it's much better in your own little world where everyone has the same opinions
