2002 Volvo XC 70Source: Cars.com...It had 57K miles at that time. The car was extremely clean and well cared for. It actually still smelled new and was in perfect condition. I paid top blue book dollar for it, but it was a bargain at 16K - original sticker was 32K. The original owner took the depreciation hit and I purchased it from her.It rides like a dream. Mileage is respectable for a 5 cylinder with a turbocharger. The stereo sounds great. The heater and air are excellent. The heated seats are wonderful for mid-western winters. The AWD takes me any place I choose to go. Huge cargo capacity with the rear seats folded... |

A surpriseSource: Edmunds...The 2002 has been the least hassle car we have owned. We have had a Chevy die in a toll booth, chryslers with ABS computer problems, Jags with various quirks. The only problem with the 02 was a stuck filler door fixed under warranty. I was leery of the reported fuel mileage and can state that to get to 18mpg one has to be going 87 mph. This was the surprise. Normal cruise at 72 mph yielded 25.4 mpg. By the way the T6 goes like stink. The wife is already looking for Mustangs to put the hurt on. I'll be adding further reviews as the mileage adds up. 400 miles so far... |

Alternatives to the XC70 are mid-size crossover vehicles—those that pair the tall body of an SUV with the underpinnings of a car, such as the Lexus RX 350 and Acura MDX.
The RX 350 and MDX are both very refined with a smooth ride and good handling; the MDX feels a little sportier behind the wheel, while the RX 350 is the choice for those looking for high-tech features.
All of the vehicles mentioned have very good results in crash tests, with the MDX designated an IIHS Top Safety Pick for 2009.
The 2009 Volvo XC70 is also very similar in size to Subaru’s Outback, another wagon that adds ground clearance and enough off-road ability for deep snow or rutted trails.
Compared to the XC70, the Outback starts at a much more affordable price, and while its base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine provides only modest performance, the Outback feels sportier than the XC70 with either the turbocharged or six-cylinder engine.
