LOOK GOOD - drives great!
Source: Edmunds

...I researched a number of crossovers. Ford Edge, Mazda cx-7, audi q5, nissan rouge, toyota venza, ford escape, saturn vue, honda crv.
The Tiguan was the one that gave me the best value, the best handling, free scheduled maintenance, and VW reputation. The back seat is comfortable for adults to ride. The cargo space is awesome...

DO NOT BUY - LEMON
Source: Edmunds

...This car is the biggest lemon i have ever purchased at 44000 miles i have had to spend over 2000 dollars in non warranty computer repairs on the car is still not fixed correctly.
I am giving the car back early cause i am afraid of how much more this car will cost me if i keep it the last 8 months of my lease.
I would rather give the car back and pay off the eat the rest of the lease. Do not buy...

CUTTIE PIE

..."What a cool ute! Handling, comfort, gas, head turner.
VW did it! You feel like you are in a giant rabbit or GTI that is surefooted and secure. So you are in an SUV but it is very cool.Try it, you will like it."...

Cruisin' in my Tiguan
Source: Edmunds

...I traded my 07 Altima SL in for this car and so far so good.
I wish it had a few more bells and whistles for the price tag but other than that it's great.
It's a little bit tight on interior space but for right now it's a good fit for my family of 4.
Seating is comfy, has a descent stock stereo system with an ipod adapter. I got mine with the 3 years of free maintenance which will save me a few hundred. Overall I'm happy with this car...

My new car
Source: Cars.com

..."Just took delivery on our Tiguan S. I've always been a Nissan guy and wanted one real bad but the only thing close was the Rogue, which didn't interest me.I looked at the Forester, and CX7.
The Subaru was a little weak on power and the CX7 rode kind of rough. This thing is quick and yes, it does cost more than other CUV's in its class.
But it offers quite a lot like a lot of leg room for its size.
And small features like one-touch up AND down window(s)operated from the driver's seat and a base stereo that's as good as a lot of other upgraded ones. This is short term so far,

Source: Cars.com

..."Very well made.Very good road handling.Fantastic economy
on motorway. It took me only a full tank of petrol
from London to Lyon in France.Sixth gear is very economical. All
of all this is on of the best car I have ever owned.Great job Volkswagen however you need to offer more standard equipment like touch screen stereo
,parking sensors, mudflaps, front fog lights and tinted glasses if you want us to come back to you again & again."...

What's up with the brakes?
Source: Edmunds

...I owned my car for 3 months and the brakes started squeaking.
Took it to dealer who says brakes had a little dust and they clean them.
One month later same and worse. Rain, early morning worst, but sunshine too.
I'm simply embarrassed that I drive a new car with less than 10,000 miles that screams like it needs a serious brake job, that's dust? Never had any stopping problems and love the car otherwise.
More later when dealer looks at the car again. Not too happy right now...

1 CUTE UTE!!!
Source: Edmunds

...This is my first VW! So far it has been a pleasure
to own and drive..I usually trade at least once a year...I think I've owned just about every brand out there..had the Honda CRV & the Toy RAV-4..(BIG YAWN), thought I would try the TIGUAN.
Exciting! This is a keeper..So far, I don't have any reason to trade it off! Husband loves the Turbo 2.0. and the 2wd does good in snow. Getting 24 Mpg mixed driving...

flawed
Source: Edmunds

...after 3900 miles, my EPC warning light appeared on the dash.
Acceleration was lost and the car sporadically regained power, only to lose it again. A few days later the Engine Malfunction icon also appeared. The car is now destined for a few days in the shop...

Why should I also consider these?

The 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan competes in a very crowded class of vehicles.

Small crossovers like the Honda CR-V are perennial best-sellers because of their smooth rides, reputation for reliability, and flexible interiors.

The CR-V, like the Tiguan, is only available in four-cylinder trim.

Toyota's RAV4 has grown, though, and now offers a V-6 option as well as a third-row seat.

Saturn's Vue was brand-new for 2008, and it's smaller than the CR-V and RAV4, with no third-row seat, but it can be ordered with a gas-electric hybrid powertrain or a powerful V-6 engine.

2009 Saturn VUE
With its available V-6 engine, the 2009 Saturn Vue is a bit more fun to drive than other compact SUVs; otherwise it’s not a standout.

2008 Honda CR-V
The 2008 Honda CR-V doesn't have hip style or performance on tap, but it has the security, utility, and frugality that many sensible moms want.

2008 Toyota RAV4
The 2008 Toyota RAV4 brings a little more space than most compact SUVs without a mid-size price.
